Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Indirect Purchasing Manager to lead procurement activities for all non-production goods and services. As a crucial player in our fast-growing joint venture, you will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, with a heavy emphasis on engineering services, IT software/hardware, and R&D equipment.
You will partner closely with cross-functional leaders in Engineering, IT, Legal, and Finance to ensure we are securing the best external engineering talent, specialized services, and technological tools to build our next-generation automotive platforms efficiently and cost-effectively.
Responsibilities
Engineering Services Sourcing: Act as the primary procurement partner for the engineering and product development teams. Source and negotiate with specialized design consultancies, outsourced engineering firms (e.g., embedded software development, hardware prototyping), and third-party testing facilities.
Strategic Sourcing: Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive sourcing strategies for broader indirect spend categories, prioritizing IT (SaaS, cloud, hardware), facilities, and general professional services.
Contract Negotiation: Lead complex negotiations for Master Service Agreements (MSAs), Statements of Work (SOWs), and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Ensure favorable commercial terms, strict IP protection, risk mitigation, and clear deliverables for external engineering partners.
Stakeholder Partnering: Act as a trusted advisor to internal technical stakeholders. Understand complex engineering requirements, translate them into actionable procurement strategies, and guide engineering teams through the purchasing lifecycle without slowing down development.
Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key engineering and IT suppliers. Implement vendor performance tracking (KPIs) and conduct regular business reviews to drive continuous improvement, quality, and accountability.
Cost Optimization: Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or speed. Drive competitive bidding processes (RFIs, RFPs, RFQs) to maximize ROI.
Process Development: Help design and scale scalable procurement processes and policies suitable for a fast-paced, high-growth joint venture environment.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: 5–8+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management, with a strong focus on indirect spend.
Category Expertise: Deep, proven expertise in sourcing Engineering Services (e.g., outsourced software/hardware development, R&D testing, systems integration) as well as IT (Software/SaaS, Cloud infrastructure).
Technical Acumen: Ability to "speak the language" of hardware and software engineers to effectively translate technical requirements into commercial SOWs.
Negotiation Skills: Exceptional negotiation and contract drafting skills, with a deep understanding of intellectual property (IP) rights, data security, and commercial terms specific to engineering and software development.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Industry Background: Previous experience in the technology, automotive, or electric vehicle (EV) sectors.
Adaptability: Experience working in a startup, joint venture, or hyper-growth environment where you have built processes from scratch.
Advanced Degree: Master’s degree, MBA, or an undergraduate degree specifically in an Engineering discipline.
