Development Engineer – Specialty Alloys

 

Location: Gothenburg, Sweden

 

ESAB is a global leader in welding and cutting technologies, with a century-long legacy of innovation and excellence. Our R&D Filler Metals department is at the forefront of developing advanced welding consumables that meet the evolving needs of industries worldwide.

 

We are now looking for a Development Engineer to join our team in Gothenburg. This is a key role within our global R&D organization, where you will lead technical development projects, drive innovation, and mentor junior engineers.

 

Your Responsibilities:

 

As a Development Engineer, you will:

  • Lead complex development projects delivering new and innovative filler metals for ESAB globally.
  • Drive product enhancement initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
  • Conduct advanced research and investigations to build knowledge and support future product development.
  • Approve raw materials and suppliers, ensuring alignment with technical and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, production instructions, and control procedures.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Sourcing, Quality, Approvals, and Production Engineering teams.
  • Act as a technical mentor and support the development of junior engineers within the team.

 

Your Profile:

 

We believe you have:

  • A Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in product development or research within welding, steel, or inorganic process industries.
  • Proven experience in project leadership and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong analytical skills and a strategic mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (Swedish is meritorious).
  • Experience with statistical tools such as Design of Experiments (DoE) and Multivariate Data Analysis (MVDA) (e.g., MODDE, SIMCA).
  • Experience with big data and LLM and machine learning.
  • An interest in driving a sustainable transformation of a large industrial company.
  • An IWE diploma is meriting.
