The Mojang Studios Quality Engineering Team is looking for an experienced Quality Engineer to join us on our mission to Build a Better World. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering high-quality experiences to millions of players. You will define effective test strategies, drive thorough feature and release test planning, and apply the right combination of data, automation, and manual coverage to assess and improve the quality of your areas.
You will work closely with dev team peers to inform quality decisions early, embed modern quality best practices into development workflows, and proactively surface risk. You will also work to explore and apply emerging technologies, including AI, to uncover new ways of helping teams achieve their quality goals. Success in this role requires balancing modern quality best practices with driving innovation to develop new quality solutions as our industry continues to evolve.

Responsibilities
- Create, manage, and operate the overall test strategy, test plans, and test execution for your teams and features.
- Collaborate closely with the feature teams to define quality goals and requirements, establish developmental quality best practices, and advocate for product quality at all phases of development.
- Manage and evaluate testing efficiency and effectiveness within your area, providing feedback to external teams, and identifying ways to increase coverage with technology, data, or automation.
- Monitor and communicate product quality status to stakeholders, proactively identifying, escalating, and driving resolution of issues impacting the team, product, or schedule.
- Actively adopt and advocate for AI‑assisted quality practices, demonstrating effective use of approved AI tools to improve test coverage, risk identification, and defect investigation while coaching peers through example and shared learnings.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years software industry experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years software industry experience
- OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4 years experience in quality assurance, software testing, or a related field within the gaming industry.
- The ability to own quality for large or complex features through at least one full ship cycle.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical partners.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage priorities, and drive work to completion with attention to detail.
- Understanding of quality assurance fundamentals, including test planning, defect analysis, defect tracking, risk‑based, or value-based testing.
- Experience building visualizations/dashboards on player telemetry to assess quality.
- Background working with test automation frameworks or/or authoring test automation.
- Proficiency working with AI to create tooling, test collateral and/or improve operational efficiency.
- Passion for Minecraft is a plus!

Software Quality Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
