Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the AI era—powering a new class of data-first applications and fostering a strong data-driven culture. 

​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. 

​​Microsoft’s India Development Center (IDC) is a key driver of innovation for Azure Data, SQL, and AI-powered services. As a Software Engineer II, you will build and operate large-scale, distributed systems that enable intelligent data-driven applications and next-generation technologies. 
 
In this role engineers take end-to-end ownership of features and subsystems, contribute to system design, and influence technical decisions within their team scope. 
 
You will work on Azure Data platforms (SQL) and increasingly on AI-native systems, including agentic AI architectures, helping Microsoft’s data + AI ecosystem.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build scalable, reliable cloud services 

  • Solving moderately complex, ambiguous engineering problems 

  • Ensure performance, reliability, and scalability 

  • Ensure strict adherence to data security, compliance, and governance

  •  Contribute to AI-powered automation, AI-enabled features and services 

  • Partner with AI/ML teams to integrate models into production systems 

  • Drive improvements in service health, latency, and availability 

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, Automated testing and validation frameworks 

  • Drive alignment across feature areas and dependencies 

  • Identify opportunities for automation and AI-driven efficiency

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications 

•    Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field 
•    3+ years of software engineering experience 
•    Strong programming skills in C++, C#, Java, Python, or similar 
•    Experience building distributed/cloud-based systems 
 

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

•    Understanding of Large-scale data processing and analytics systems 
•    Experience (or interest) in AI Agentic workflows (multi-step reasoning, orchestration, automation)​
