Summary of Job Duties:

The Host/Digital Producer will research, report, edit and write daily news and feature stories as part of the station's on-air and digital news efforts. The Host/Digital Producer will also serve as the primary All Things Considered Host. Supplemental commentary will be required when participating as an informed on-air source of content. The Host/Digital Producer will also participate in on-air membership drives and appear at fundraisers, station, and community events. The host/digital producer will create promotional and interstitial content as needed or required. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;

  • (1) year experience as a producer, writer, journalist or editor. 

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Journalism, Broadcast, Mass Communications or comparable media curriculum, or a comparable Associate's Degree with two (2) experience in Journalism or Broadcasting. 

  • Experience in reporting for audio or radio broadcasts;

  • Experience in a news capacity at an NPR affiliate public radio station.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produces daily news stories and long-form feature reports as part of the station's newsroom and collaborative efforts;

  • Create stories that require extensive research, analysis of interview content, investigative and verification work, and individualized interpretation based on audience factors; 

  • Supplemental commentary will be required when participating as an informed on-air source of content;

  • All Things Considered Host;

  • Produce digital first stories for social media;

  • Produce stories for statewide newscast;

  • Participate in on-air membership drives;

  • Appear at fundraisers, station events, and community events;

  • Create news-related promotional and interstitial content as needed or required;

  • Be available for reports related to significant breaking news; reports may require spot analysis and fact interpretation based on changing and developing factors;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of digital and social media;

  • Knowledge of journalistic principles, ethics and standards;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;

  • Knowledge of NPR editorial process;

  • Knowledge of audio recording and editing techniques;

  • Knowledge of Adobe Audition;

  • Demonstrated organizational skills;

  • Strong interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate;

  • Willingness to develop opportunities for engagement with the broader community.
