Background and Context

Student Wellbeing & Success, part of the Academic Services Directorate, aims to enhance the student experience through the provision of high-quality advice, guidance, and support. Comprising of a variety of specialisms geared to support students, the service area places student progression and success at the core of its business and seeks to take a proactive and innovative approach to the activities offered as part of the service area.

The Support Worker role ensures the provision of practical, individually tailored support to disabled students, enabling their inclusion and ability to excel in academic activities. The post holder will contribute to the work of Student Wellbeing & Success Team, working within the Disability Inclusion and Neurodivergent Support (DINS) specialist area. Proactive and holistic in its approach, DINS supports students with a range of disabilities including sensory and/or mobility difficulties, unseen medical conditions and those who are neurodiverse, providing a timely, accessible, and confidential service.

The purpose of the role is to support disabled students and assist within the wider University community, fostering and enabling an inclusive environment for all.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post

The primary focus of the Support Worker role is to provide a range of practical, study-related, non-medical support to students across campus.  

This will include: practical assistance and support to access learning activities, mobility assistance, sighted guidance, note taking, examination support, and other general 1-1 study-related assistance such as support in accessing learning resources, as required. The post holder will also be expected to support the work of Wellbeing colleagues and the wider directorate in general. The post holder will need to be adaptable and work flexibly in line with the needs of students and the service.  

Please note that this is a TSS role which will start from the beginning of August 2026.  Its focus is on the delivery of study-related support and this does not include personal care. Hours of work are typically 0-10 hours per week during main teaching periods (September - April).
