Senior DevOps Engineer

Newton Research · Greater Boston Area

Newton Research is a fast-growing software start-up founded by repeat entrepreneurs and well-funded by blue chip venture capital firms. We are building the next generation of the closed loop media lifecycle, developing AI agents that leverage the latest in LLMs and generative AI with specialized knowledge. Our products power a wide range of workflows across brands, agencies and publishers, assisting in each step of the media planning, buying and measurement lifecycle.

Role Description

We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer who thrives on automation, owns the reliability of our infrastructure, and isn't afraid to put AI to work as a daily tool in their workflow. This is a high-ownership role on a small, nimble team — you'll have a direct hand in shaping every decision, from tooling choices to architectural direction. There's no hiding behind the process here; you'll own problems end to end and have real autonomy over how our systems are built and run. You'll be responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure that lets our engineering team ship with confidence — from provisioning to production observability.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), with a primary focus on AWS and supporting customer-installed environments on Azure and GCP
  • Own our container orchestration layer across both ECS and Kubernetes, ensuring workloads are reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient
  • Evaluate and recommend tooling, patterns, and platform investments that shape the direction of our infrastructure
  • Design and manage CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and own the release pipeline end to end — from code merge through staging validation to production rollout, including rollback strategies and release gating
  • Define and drive best practices for deployment safety, environment promotion, and release cadence
  • Instrument systems with robust monitoring, observability, and log aggregation tooling (Sentry, Better Stack, Prometheus, etc.), define SLOs/SLIs, and lead incident response and postmortem processes
  • Own and maintain SSO integrations, ensuring internal tooling and customer-facing applications support enterprise identity providers via SAML and OIDC, including customer onboarding for SSO in their installed environments
  • Maintain and advance our SOC 2 compliance posture — implementing and enforcing controls around access management, audit logging, change management, and encryption, and owning technical evidence collection for audits
  • Automate everything worth automating — if a process is manual and repeatable, find a way to script it, pipeline it, or eliminate it
  • Support and maintain data infrastructure including data warehouses and query engines (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Athena, etc.), ensuring reliable pipelines and access for analytics and product workloads
  • Actively leverage AI-powered tools (code assistants, automated review, intelligent alerting, generative AI for infrastructure analysis) and champion their adoption across the engineering organization
  • Collaborate with compliance and security stakeholders to close gaps and respond to auditor requests

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in a DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering role with demonstrated ownership of production systems at scale
  • Deep expertise in AWS with working knowledge of Azure and GCP
  • Strong hands-on experience with Terraform across multiple cloud providers
  • Production experience with both ECS and Kubernetes
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tooling, particularly GitHub Actions
  • Experience implementing and managing SSO via SAML 2.0 and/or OIDC with enterprise identity providers (e.g., Okta, Entra ID, Google Workspace); familiarity with Auth0 as a service provider is a plus
  • Experience supporting SOC 2 audits or similar compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001)
  • Scripting and automation fluency in Python, Bash, or Go
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPC design) including experience configuring and managing client and site-to-site VPN connections
  • Experience managing and supporting cloud data warehouse infrastructure (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Athena)
  • Comfort with Linux system administration
  • A track record of using AI as a practical tool in day-to-day work
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders

The Kind of Person Who Succeeds Here

You're pragmatic, not dogmatic. You pick the right tool for the job and you're always looking for a better way to do things — whether that means writing a script, adopting a new AI tool, or simplifying a process that's grown too complex. You communicate clearly with developers, product teams, and leadership, and you take ownership of problems through to resolution. You see compliance not as a checkbox exercise but as good engineering discipline baked into how you build systems.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to shape technical strategy and architecture at a high-growth AI startup
  • High-impact role with significant autonomy and influence
  • Work directly with founders and technical leadership
  • Collaborative, innovative team culture that values technical excellence
  • Competitive compensation, significant equity, and benefits
  • Cutting-edge technology stack and complex technical challenges

Base Salary: $150-175 + equity
