Job Description
As a Senior Manager, Finance, you will play a key role in financial planning and analysis, while providing leadership and oversight to a team of two staff accountants. You will be responsible for the day-to-day financial operations, including financial reporting, general ledger account reconciliations, sales tax reporting, Statistics Canada reporting, third-party reporting, month-end activities, and overall general accounting processes.
The successful candidate will be a key business partner who collaborates with other areas of the business to support financial reporting, analysis, and key cross-functional projects.
The Role
The Senior Manager, Finance will:
- Lead, coach, and develop two direct reports (junior and mid‑level), providing clear direction, ongoing feedback, and structured review of work to ensure accuracy, accountability, and continuous skill development
- Set priorities, delegate effectively, and balance workload across the team, ensuring deadlines are met while supporting learning and progression appropriate to experience level
- Support talent development through regular 1:1s, performance coaching, and goal setting, including identifying stretch opportunities for the mid‑level role and foundational skill-building for the junior role
- Own and oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger management, month-end close, and balance sheet reconciliations and third-party reporting
- Lead planning and execution of financial activities and projects, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal controls
- Act as a trusted financial business partner, providing clear, user-friendly financial insights to cross-functional stakeholders
- Support the development, consolidation, and analysis of annual budgets and monthly forecasts; monitor variances and drivers
- Provide working knowledge of commodity and corporate tax matters, including compliance and reporting requirements
- Serve as a subject-matter expert on SAP and proprietary label financial systems, ensuring data integrity and effective use across the business
- Design, develop, and maintain financial queries and reporting to support business analysis and decision-making
- Deliver timely ad-hoc financial analysis and insights to support strategic and operational initiatives
- Identify and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, controls, and scalability across finance operations
- Support and/or lead additional cross-functional projects as required
Qualifications
- CPA designation or completion of CPA program (final stages acceptable)
- 5-8 years of progressive business experience
- At least 2 years of proven experience leading and motivating a team, with demonstrated leadership in prior roles
- Strong working knowledge of SAP and financial reporting systems
- Working knowledge of commodity and corporate income taxes
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Strong attention to detail with a high standard of accuracy and accountability
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and manage multiple priorities
- Sound judgment and the ability to balance precision with business needs in a fast-paced environment
