Family Advocacy Clinician II- Forensic Interviewer/Mental Health Advocate

Overview:


 

The role involves conducting forensic interviews with children who have experienced alleged abuse, including sexual abuse, physical abuse, and exposure to violence such as domestic violence, gun violence, and homicide

The role also includes an on-call component. On-call shifts occur outside of regular business hours and are approximately 12–13 hours in duration.

Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required by hospital policy. Must pass a motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and must maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Provides general child and family advocacy, interventions, counseling support, and prevention services, as a part of a multidisciplinary team, for individuals and families at The Center For Family Safety and Healing.


 

Job Description:


 

Essential Functions:

  • Advocates for children and their families, connecting them with the appropriate resources for their situation and assisting with coordination.
  • Collaborates with families to develop service plans that incorporate their strengths, visions, goals, and priorities.
  • Completes all required documentation and paperwork requirements in a competent, legible, and timely manner consistent with legal and agency policy or program mandates.
  • Educates families on expected developmental milestones for their child and routine medical and health services.
  • Ensures confidentiality of clients and complies with related hospital policies, federal and state regulations, and established program guidlines.
  • Implements appropriate interventions and services to families, providing education, support, and problem solving.
  • Utilizes appropriate developmental screening and assessment techniques.


Education Requirement:

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Child Development, or related field, required.


Licensure Requirement:

Independent Ohio licensure in social work or counseling (LISW, PCC), preferred.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of relevant federal and state legislation and regulations and local county-specific policies. Understanding of mandated reporting laws.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills.
  • Working knowledge of relevant community resources and systems.
  • Working knowledge of interpersonal family violence and human development.
  • Ability to manage mental healthcare for children and families and provide family violence intervention.
  • Crisis intervention skills including suicide assessment and response.


Experience:

  • Two years of experience in social services, or related field, with an emphasis on trauma, preferred.
  • Experience working with sexual victimization or domestic violence victims, preferred.
