As a Senior Director, Public Affairs Oncology Advocacy, you will lead the development and execution of strategic advocacy initiatives that elevate patient voices and strengthen leadership within the oncology landscape. This highly visible role sits at the intersection of public affairs, patient advocacy, medical affairs, policy, and commercial strategy, helping shape engagement efforts around innovative oncology therapies and key clinical milestones. You will collaborate with senior leaders, advocacy organizations, healthcare stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to drive meaningful impact for patients and communities. The position offers the opportunity to influence reputation-building efforts, support product launches, and advance awareness of unmet needs in oncology. Operating within a dynamic and matrixed environment, you will guide strategic partnerships, oversee advocacy programs, and contribute to long-term organizational growth and leadership in healthcare. This role is ideal for an experienced advocacy leader passionate about improving patient outcomes and driving change across the oncology ecosystem.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and lead U.S. advocacy strategies for oncology programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives, clinical milestones, medical priorities, and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on patient advocacy, public affairs, healthcare policy, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Build and maintain compelling patient-centered narratives, messaging frameworks, and communication tools that support advocacy and awareness efforts.
  • Establish and manage relationships with advocacy organizations, patient groups, healthcare stakeholders, and external partners to strengthen engagement and collaboration.
  • Design and implement advocacy programs that raise awareness of unmet medical needs and enhance public understanding of oncology-related challenges.
  • Support product launches, clinical developments, and regulatory milestones through coordinated advocacy and communications initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with commercial, medical affairs, government affairs, regulatory, access, and communications teams to ensure integrated stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Drive alignment between global and regional public affairs initiatives, ensuring consistency in messaging, materials, and strategic priorities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing culture.
  • Oversee agency partners, sponsorship activities, advocacy funding programs, and budget management to maximize strategic impact and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor external trends, policy developments, and stakeholder needs to identify emerging opportunities, risks, and advocacy priorities.
  • Implement performance measurement frameworks to evaluate advocacy effectiveness and optimize program outcomes.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree with extensive experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, advocacy, scientific communications, public affairs, or related fields; advanced degree preferred.
    • Significant experience developing and leading advocacy strategies connected to clinical development programs, regulatory milestones, and product launch activities.
    • Strong background in oncology, patient advocacy, healthcare policy, government affairs, medical affairs, or public affairs leadership.
    • Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives, external stakeholders, patient advocates, healthcare professionals, and academic leaders.
    • Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Proven success working within complex, matrixed organizations and leading cross-functional collaboration across multiple business functions.
    • Experience building and managing strategic partnerships with advocacy organizations and external stakeholders.
    • Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Experience managing agencies, budgets, sponsorships, and advocacy investment programs.
    • Knowledge of healthcare industry regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices related to advocacy engagement.
    • Familiarity with digital communications, analytics, stakeholder engagement measurement, and reputation management strategies is highly desirable.
    • Global experience or experience working across international markets is considered an advantage.
    • Passion for oncology, patient-centered healthcare, and advancing public health outcomes.

      • Competitive base salary ranging from $221,000 to $286,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
