Job Purpose
The Supervisor of Sub-Assembly (Insourcing) is responsible for establishing and leading sub-assembly operations supporting both new aerospace program launches and sustaining production. This role ensures full compliance with aerospace quality standards, strict configuration control, and efficient execution of production activities while meeting safety, delivery, and cost objectives.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Associate’s degree in manufacturing or aerospace related preferred or 8 years HACI technical experience
- Minimum Experience: 8 yrs
- Monitoring the manufacturing of detail parts, assemblies, and installations not limited to: Pylons, flight controls, and landing gear.
- Experience in definition of assembly process for complex aerostructures both Composite and Metallic.
- Experience in aerospace structure fabrication and assembly. Have a knowledge of chemical and physical processing of metallic and composite parts including heat treating, priming, painting, anodizing, NDT, etc.
Key Accountabilities
Operational Setup & Industrialization
- Lead the setup and industrialization of sub-assembly operations for new aerospace programs and insourced work
- Procure and commission all required support equipment, ensuring compliance with aerospace standards and specifications
- Design and implement controlled systems for hand tool storage, calibration, maintenance, and traceability
- Team with Industrial Engineering to optimize work-cell and production floor layouts to support lean flow, safety, and ergonomic standards
Production Leadership
- Supervise and develop assigned workforce, ensuring proper certification, training, and qualification of operators
- Enforce compliance with company policies (HACI), and all regulatory and safety requirements
- Ensure adherence to work instructions, engineering specifications, and configuration control processes
- Drive accountability for safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance
- Maintain acceptable levels of morale within the direct labor team
Schedule & Labor Management
- Execute production plans to meet master schedules and customer delivery commitments
- Monitor schedule adherence and implement recovery plans when required
- Manage overtime requirements in alignment with operational priorities and labor guidelines
Material & Supply Chain Coordination
- Coordinate closely with supply chain, planning, and procurement teams to ensure material availability
- Identify, communicate, and escalate parts shortages or risks impacting production
- Support containment and mitigation plan to minimize disruption to production schedules
Performance Management & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain KPIs for safety, quality (e.g., defect rates, rework), delivery, and productivity
- Analyze trends and lead root cause and corrective action efforts (RCCA)
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles
- Support cost reduction and efficiency improvement initiatives
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to type design, quality management systems and FAA requirements
- Maintain full traceability of tools, materials, and assemblies
- Support internal and external audits, including customer and regulatory audits
- Promote a culture of zero-defect manufacturing and proactive quality ownership
Reporting & Communication
- Provide daily status reports on production output, schedule adherence, risks, and recovery actions
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management
- Support program reviews and leadership updates as required
Working Conditions
1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.
7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
8. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
