Regulatory Compliance Specialist II (Claims)
Protective is looking for a Regulatory Compliance Specialist II (Regulatory Claims Associate II- Claims) to support the compliant administration of Life, Annuity, and Disability claims. In this role, you’ll apply regulatory knowledge, legal research skills, and claims expertise to help ensure our claims processes meet state insurance requirements and internal standards.

This is a Hybrid position and requires onsite reporting weekly at Protective's Brimingham, AL office location. Local qualified candidates will be considered for interview.
Essential Functions:
- Apply statutory and regulatory requirements to real world claims scenarios across insurance products, escalating novel or complex issues as appropriate
- Conduct targeted legal and regulatory research and provide clear, operationally focused guidance to claims and servicing partners
- Support regulatory compliance efforts, including participation in complex claim investigations in collaboration with Claims, Legal, and Compliance teams
- Review estate related documents (such as trusts, powers of attorney, divorce decrees, and court orders) to support accurate and compliant claim determinations
- Assist with Market Conduct exams and regulatory inquiries by coordinating information and drafting or reviewing responses for state insurance departments
- Develop training materials, job aids, and reference tools to support consistent claims handling and operational procedures
- Analyze data to identify trends and support performance improvement recommendations within claims operations
Education and Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 1–3 years of experience in legal research, regulatory compliance, insurance operations, or a related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and sound judgment
- Ability to work independently within established frameworks while collaborating effectively across teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in insurance claims, compliance, or regulatory support
- Familiarity with state insurance regulations
- Juris Doctor (JD) or paralegal background (preferred, not required)
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Vision acuity required to include close vision, color vision, distant vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to grasp objects such a telephone or computer mouse, finger dexterity to use a keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment
- Ability to walk, stand, reach with hands and arms; stoop kneel, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to frequently sit for long periods of time
- Ability to hear and talk, both in person and by phone
- Ability to spend extended hours in front of a computer screen
