Position: Assistant Drill Rig Operator
We are seeking for an experienced Assistant Drill Rig Operator to join our team in Mashonaland West (Zimbabwe).
Operational Responsibilities
Assist the Drill Rig Operator during drilling operations, including setup, alignment, rod handling, and drilling support activities.
Support accurate drilling alignment and directional guidance in accordance with drill plans and supervisor instructions.
Operate and tram the drill rig safely to and from designated work areas when authorized and competent to do so.
Conduct pre-start inspections and machine checks in accordance with established procedures before operating or assisting with equipment.
Ensure warning signals, alarms, lights, and safety devices are functional, and report defects promptly.
Assist with refueling, lubrication, housekeeping, and routine servicing tasks as required.
Maintain drilling areas clean, organized, and free from hazards or obstructions.
Support loading, unloading, and handling of drilling tools, consumables, and accessories.
Report machine faults, abnormal conditions, or operational issues to the Drill Rig Operator or Supervisor.
Ensure the drill rig is not left unattended unless all necessary precautions have been taken to prevent unintended movement.
Safety Responsibilities
Participate in pre-task risk assessments before the commencement of any work.
Comply with all company Safety Policies and Procedures.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required at all times.
Follow safe operating procedures and instructions from supervisors and operators.
Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near-miss events.
Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, mobile equipment, and changing ground conditions.
Environmental Responsibilities
Comply with EPSA’s environmental policies and practices.
Ensure drilling support activities are carried out with minimal environmental impact.
Assist in spill prevention, dust control, and proper waste disposal practices.
Maintain good housekeeping in drilling and work areas.
Qualifications
Secondary education certificate or equivalent.
Basic understanding of machine operation and equipment handling.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in mining, drilling, or heavy equipment operations.
Ability to read and write in English.
Preferred Qualifications
Certificate in Drill Rig Operation or related equipment training.
Experience working in open-pit mining operations.
Training in mine safety procedures.
Familiarity with drill rig components and maintenance requirements.
