CAD Drafter - Kalamazoo, MI

DISHER is partnering with a long‑established manufacturer of spectator seating systems that designs and builds telescoping bleachers, stadium seating, and related structures. This team is seeking a CAD Drafter - Submittals (AutoCAD 2D) to create seating layouts and submittal drawings to support sales, engineering, and future system design work.

What it's like to work here:

It’s a hands-on environment where engineering and manufacturing work closely together to design and build bleachers and stadium seating—chances are you’ve already watched a game or event sitting in their products. The culture is evolving, with a growing emphasis on inclusivity, diversity, and bringing more everyday joy and energy into the workplace. Teams are collaborative and training-focused, with pathways for early-career CAD talent to grow into more advanced roles over time.

What you'll get to do:

  • Create 2D preliminary and submittal drawings in AutoCAD based on architectural plans, specifications, and required accessories for bleacher and seating systems.

  • Develop seating layouts that maximize seating capacity while following state and local building codes and safety requirements.

  • Verify code compliance of markings and changes on returned/approved drawings from architects and owners.

  • Provide CAD drawing support to stock billing and the broader design/engineering group as projects move deeper into detailed design.

  • Contribute to product standardization by helping maintain and improve drawing standards, templates, and detail libraries.

  • Collaborate with team leads, stock billers, and engineers to clarify requirements and ensure drawings accurately represent intended installations.

  • Occasionally support field installation teams for short periods (if interested) to see how systems go together and bring real‑world insight back into your drawings.

What will make you successful:

  • High school diploma required; CAD certificate or Associate degree in CAD, Design Technology, or a related field preferred.

  • Completed relevant CAD coursework and/or at least one year of professional CAD or design/drafting experience.

  • 1–3 years of experience doing design or drafting work, ideally in building products, structural steel, industrial equipment, material handling, store fixtures, or a similar environment.

  • Strong 2D AutoCAD skills (production‑level efficiency with layers, blocks, xrefs, and paper/model space) are a must.

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and translate them into accurate seating layouts.

  • Ideal candidates will be familiar with both architectural and mechanical engineering concepts, as this role blends elements of both.

  • Candidates who have some welding knowledge and can understand welding symbols on drawings.

  • Candidates who understand terminology related to manufacturing processes (e.g., BOM – Bill of Materials, etc.).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

  • Any exposure to structural or mechanical design concepts (loads, clearances, constructability) is a plus.

  • Experience with 3D CAD is a plus and will be valuable.

  • Positive, upbeat attitude with a desire to contribute to a more joyful, engaging work environment.

  • Able to work independently on focused drafting tasks while also collaborating effectively with a wide range of personalities and communication styles.

  • Detail‑oriented with a strong sense of ownership for accuracy, code compliance, and completeness in drawings.

  • Curious, trainable, and interested in long‑term growth.
