Staff Accountant

Assists in maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded. Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. Compiles financial data to aid Senior Accountants, Manager of Accounting, and Executive Director of Accounting in the preparation of Statements of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, and Statement of Cash Flows and other financial reports. Performs account analysis and reconciliations along with participating with closing processes and external audits. Requires a bachelor's degree. Reports to a Manager of Accounting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Account analysis and reconciliation.

  • Journal entries, bank reconciliations, accruals and reclassifications, month and year-end closing processes, and audit schedules.
  • Management of assigned tasks in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Apply knowledge of GAAP and Financial Accounting Standards, practices and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 2-4 years accounting experience
  • Higher Education experience
  • Banner experience
  • Fluent in Spanish or American Sign Language

Minimum Qualifications: Tier I

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • General Accounting skills, 1 years experience in Accounting field
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Solid written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team player, excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to articulate and defend the unique Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University and its subsidiaries to a wide variety of individuals and groups.
  • Individual must not be in default on any federal student or parent loan
  • Individual must not be convicted of, or pled nolo contendere or guilty to, a crime involving the acquisition, use, or expenditure of federal, state, or local government funds, -or- be administratively or judicially determined to have committed fraud or any other material violation of law involving federal, state, or local government funds (CFR 668.14(b)(18)(i))

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting.  It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate. 

Driving Requirements

If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel.  Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.
