This role sits at the intersection of data analytics, cloud engineering, and financial optimization, focusing on driving efficiency across large-scale data platforms. The professional will be responsible for identifying cost-saving opportunities in cloud environments, particularly within Microsoft Azure and Databricks ecosystems, ensuring performance and scalability are maintained. Working closely with engineering and finance teams, this position plays a key role in shaping FinOps practices and governance. The environment is highly collaborative, data-driven, and focused on continuous improvement and modernization. It requires strong analytical thinking and a proactive mindset to translate technical insights into financial impact. The role directly contributes to optimizing cloud investments while enabling business growth and operational excellence.

Accountabilities

Acting as a FinOps-focused BI specialist, you will monitor cloud consumption, identify inefficiencies, and drive cost optimization initiatives across data platforms. You will partner with engineering and finance teams to ensure visibility, accountability, and governance of cloud spending.

  • Monitor and analyze usage and cost patterns across Azure and Databricks environments, identifying top cost drivers and optimization opportunities
  • Lead and support savings initiatives such as workload rightsizing, cluster optimization, and automation of idle resource shutdowns
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to implement FinOps best practices across pipelines, jobs, and data workflows
  • Track and validate cost impact before and after optimization actions, ensuring governance, tagging accuracy, and ownership attribution
  • Support modernization and migration initiatives with cost-performance analysis and recommendation of optimized architectures
  • Participate in FinOps rituals, backlog prioritization, and stakeholder reporting to ensure alignment between technical and financial goals
  • Requirements

    The ideal candidate combines strong data engineering expertise with solid FinOps and cloud cost management experience. You are highly analytical, comfortable working with complex datasets, and skilled in translating technical metrics into business value.

    • Strong academic background in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, Economics, or related fields
    • Advanced English (and/or Spanish) required for global collaboration
    • Solid experience in cloud data platforms with a focus on cost optimization and governance
    • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Azure services (e.g., Storage, SQL, Data Factory) and cost analysis by workload
    • Hands-on experience with Databricks including cluster management, autoscaling, optimization, and performance tuning
    • Advanced Python and SQL skills, including query optimization, data partitioning, and performance troubleshooting
    • Familiarity with Power BI and Microsoft Fabric concepts is a plus
    • Experience with observability, SLAs, job monitoring, and cost metrics in cloud environments
    • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and business teams
