POSITION SUMMARY
Director, API Distribution & Commercial Development leads Empower’s API distribution and repackaging business, driving revenue growth, customer acquisition, supplier partnerships, regulatory compliance, and operational scalability. Leveraging AI-enabled market intelligence, forecasting, pricing analytics, and automation, the role improves decision-making, commercial execution, and business performance. Success requires strategic thinking, execution rigor, learning agility, and entrepreneurial leadership within a hyper-growth, highly regulated environment. RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Unit Strategy
- Business Leadership: Leads Empower’s API distribution strategy, aligning commercial, operational, and regulatory priorities. Utilizes AI-enabled analytics and forecasting tools to identify growth opportunities, improve decision-making, and support profitable expansion.
- Growth Planning: Develops commercialization strategies, financial forecasts, and growth roadmaps supporting revenue expansion. Leverages AI-powered market intelligence and pricing analytics to improve planning accuracy and strengthen competitive positioning.
- P&L Ownership: Owns business unit financial performance, including revenue, margins, expenses, and capital allocation. Applies AI-enabled financial analytics and operational dashboards to improve visibility, accountability, and profitability.
Commercial Development
- Customer Acquisition: Develops go-to-market strategies and leads customer acquisition for 503A and 503B pharmacies. Utilizes AI-powered analytics and market intelligence to improve targeting, strengthen relationships, and drive revenue growth.
- Market Expansion: Identifies growth opportunities, customer needs, and portfolio gaps supporting business expansion. Leverages AI-enabled competitive intelligence and demand forecasting to strengthen market positioning and accelerate opportunity capture.
- Account Development: Builds relationships with pharmacy owners and key stakeholders to strengthen retention and revenue growth. Applies AI-assisted customer insights and engagement analytics to improve account planning and customer advocacy.
Distribution Operations
- Operational Design: Partners in the design and optimization of distribution infrastructure, including warehousing, logistics, inventory management, and operational workflows. Collaborates across functions to leverage AI-powered analytics and automation tools that enhance efficiency, visibility, compliance, and scalability.
- Supplier Management: Works collaboratively with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support sourcing strategies, supply continuity initiatives, and product availability objectives. Utilizes AI-enabled analytics and forecasting tools to inform sourcing decisions, strengthen supplier partnerships, and help mitigate supply risks.
- Technology Integration: Collaborates with business and technology teams to support ERP, WMS, customer ordering, and DSCSA compliance technologies that enable distribution operations. Leverages AI-assisted automation and reporting tools to improve traceability, inventory visibility, and operational effectiveness
Regulatory And Quality Governance
- Licensing Strategy: Collaborates with regulatory, legal, and business stakeholders to support licensing, DEA registration, and regulatory approval activities that enable business launch and ongoing compliance. Utilizes AI-enabled compliance tracking and workflow automation tools to improve visibility, streamline execution, and strengthen governance.
- Quality Oversight: Partners with Quality Assurance and cross-functional teams to support distribution quality systems, supplier qualification, material verification, and compliance activities. Leverages AI-powered analytics and monitoring tools to enhance quality performance, regulatory compliance, and product integrity.
- Risk Management: Works collaboratively across operational, regulatory, commercial, and supply chain functions to identify and assess risks impacting business performance. Applies AI-enabled predictive analytics and risk intelligence tools to support mitigation planning, issue resolution, and business continuity efforts.
Leadership And Organizational Development
- Team Development: Recruits and develops high-performing teams supporting business growth and scalability. Utilizes AI-enabled workforce analytics and talent platforms to strengthen accountability, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Partners with Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, IT, and executive leadership to align priorities and support business execution. Leverages AI-enabled collaboration and reporting tools to improve communication and decision-making.
- Executive Communication: Provides business updates, performance insights, and growth recommendations to executive leadership. Applies AI-powered dashboards and analytics tools to improve reporting quality, strategic visibility, and enterprise alignment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Deep expertise in pharmaceutical distribution, API sourcing, wholesale drug distribution regulations, DSCSA requirements, DEA licensing, supply chain management, and commercial business development within highly regulated environments.
- Proven ability leveraging AI-enabled market intelligence, forecasting technologies, supply chain analytics, business intelligence platforms, and automation tools improving operational performance, commercial execution, and decision-making effectiveness.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, stakeholder management, and executive communication skills with demonstrated success building businesses, developing customer relationships, and leading complex cross-functional initiatives.
- Advanced financial acumen, strategic planning capabilities, and operational problem-solving expertise with experience managing P&L performance, business scalability, regulatory compliance, and organizational growth.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related discipline required; MBA, PharmD, or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive pharmaceutical distribution, API distribution, wholesale drug distribution, supply chain, or commercial leadership experience, including significant P&L accountability.
- Demonstrated experience launching or scaling new business lines, distribution operations, or entrepreneurial growth initiatives within regulated pharmaceutical, healthcare, or life sciences organizations strongly preferred.
- Experience with DEA distributor registration, wholesale distributor licensing, DSCSA compliance, supplier qualification programs, ERP/WMS platforms, and pharmaceutical quality systems strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to build high-performing teams, drive customer acquisition, influence executive stakeholders, and deliver measurable revenue, profitability, and operational growth outcomes within hyper-growth environments.
