The Opportunity

The Senior Manager of Clinical Trial Reimbursement provides advanced functional leadership and strategic direction in the development and execution of reimbursement strategies supporting medical device clinical studies. This individual contributor operates with a high degree of independence and technical expertise to ensure compliant, consistent, and scalable reimbursement practices across IDE, post approval, post market, and evidence development studies.

The Senior Manager partners broadly across Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, Market Access, Legal, and global study teams to ensure alignment between study design, payer requirements, and reimbursement strategy. This role contributes to cross divisional initiatives, influences clinical evidence planning, and ensures adherence to CMS, payer, and Abbott compliance standards.

What You’ll Work On

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in national, local, and payer specific coverage policy, leading internal policy discussions, synthesizing regulatory and reimbursement changes, and providing strategic insights that influence clinical development, evidence generation, and access strategy
  • Lead the strategic review and interpretation of clinical investigative plans and payer policies, including Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and commercial payers, to establish comprehensive coverage and reimbursement strategies for IDE, PAS and PMS, Coverage with Evidence Development, and other sponsored trials across all therapy areas including Cardiac Rhythm Management, Electrophysiology, Heart Failure, Neuromodulation, Structural Heart, and Vascular
  • Provide expert guidance on Clinical Trial Agreements and Informed Consent Forms by identifying financial and compliance risks, recommending mitigation strategies, and ensuring alignment with reimbursement frameworks and regulatory requirements across multi-site and complex trial designs
  • Direct the creation and governance of study specific reimbursement tools and site facing materials, ensuring clarity, consistency, and effective implementation across investigative sites while supporting site enablement and audit readiness
  • Partner cross functionally to incorporate reimbursement considerations into study planning and execution
  • Proactively identify, assess, and escalate reimbursement and billing compliance risks across clinical trials, while leading the resolution of complex site and payer issues and developing scalable mitigation strategies
  • Provide advanced oversight and strategic guidance to investigative sites on Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and commercial payer prior authorizations, predeterminations, and appeals to optimize reimbursement outcomes for subjects enrolled in sponsored clinical trials
  • Direct and support complex claim submission and appeals processes, leveraging deep expertise in public and private payer requirements to ensure compliant billing practices and minimize denials or financial risk
  • Maintain and continuously enhance subject matter expertise in reimbursement policy, clinical research requirements, and industry trends, serving as a trusted advisor while aligning strategies with organizational priorities, product pipelines, and evolving market dynamics

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree and 7 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, health policy, clinical research, health economics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of reimbursement and health policy experience.
  • 5+ years of medical device experience.
  • Strong U.S. reimbursement expertise, including coding, coverage, and payment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and industry reimbursement and compliance regulations.
  • Ability to research and apply reimbursement strategies across clinical trials and business initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of complex disease states and technical product information.
  • Proven project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to perform in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • High initiative, motivation, and business acumen.
  • Strong interpersonal and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all levels of management and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
  • International reimbursement experience.

The base pay for this position is

$113,300.00 – $226,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
