About Pulley
Pulley helps the country’s top architects, builders, and retailers speed up every project in their portfolio. With AI-powered permitting intelligence and expert guidance, we eliminate costly delays and bring predictability across the full lifecycle of commercial projects.
Today, permitting is the slowest, most uncertain part of building, spread across 19,000+ jurisdictions with different rules, timelines, and surprises. Pulley gives project teams the clarity and predictability they need to move from planning to opening without delays.
We support rollout programs for brands like J.Crew, Solidcore, and Hibbett Sports, as well as major data center buildouts, EV charging networks, and other commercial projects. Our platform dramatically reduces approval timelines, improves forecasting accuracy, and removes thousands of hours of manual work from design and construction teams.
Founded in 2021, Pulley combines deep permitting expertise with purpose-built AI from people who have created products used by millions. We’re backed by CRV, Susa Ventures, Fifth Wall, and leaders from Plaid, Segment, ServiceTitan, and Procore.
This role is based in our San Francisco, CA office, reporting to our CEO, Charlie Jacobson, and collaborating with our collocated design and engineering team of 15+ people.
You're a product designer who cares deeply about designing the right thing before designing the thing right
Driven by curiosity, you find yourself obsessing over problems that "feel weird, but I don't know why yet"
Craft is a core value (and one of ours) – ****You have an infectiously high quality bar for how the product shows up, nothing gets past your design QA, and you know how to bring others along the way
There is a method to your madness — you use principles and frameworks to solve problems of varying scale, knowing there's no single right approach (but there are wrong ones)
Excited about designing for work – at this point everyone uses software to do their jobs, you’re energized by making complex domains simple to work in
You are energized by working for startups. Translation: fast paced, async collaboration via Slack, can create something from nothing, act as an owner, and hold strong opinions loosely
Design and effectively communicate compelling user flows and specifications for stakeholders and engineers
Leverage AI across the design lifecycle from desk research to high fidelity prototypes and production code
Lead projects from concept to a successful launch, ensuring a high bar of execution
Interface directly with customers to collect feedback on new and existing functionality
Advocate for the user by partnering with product and engineering on product definition and roadmap
Contribute to and evolve the design system and product design lifecycle at Pulley
5+ years designing software products; experience designing for enterprise or B2B products or services preferred
Expert with Figma designs and prototypes.* Comfortable creating working prototypes with AI (must have) and collaborating with engineering to ship production code (nice to have)
Portfolio demonstrates product and visual design experience with a strong attention to detail
Experience contributing to and evangelizing a visual language for highly polished product experiences
Successfully shipped web based products and features collaborating closely with engineering
*We rarely use Figma at Pulley. We’re not doing this just for the sake of joining the AI bandwagon, working this way enables us to generate solutions more quickly, get clearer feedback from more detailed prototypes, and ship faster by handing off a coded solutions to engineering. AI hasn’t totally replaced our output, but a majority of the designs we deliver are not in Figma.
At the end of the day, we draw rectangles to communicate software product solutions for people to get their jobs done. You’re right for Pulley if you can draw, are curious about how we (and our customers) work, and can find creative for how we all will work in the future.
