Senior Motion Designer

Lumin Digital · Remote- United States

We’re looking for a Senior Motion Designer who approaches motion as a communication tool — someone who can take complex ideas and make them clear, memorable, and distinctly Lumin. You’ll own motion as a creative function, working directly with our Creative Director to lead work from concept through final production across product marketing, web, social, and live events. More than that, you’ll help define what motion looks like as a core part of the Lumin brand, building the motion systems, principles, and templates that make animation a consistent and scalable part of how we show up.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead motion work from concept through final delivery — product videos, explainers, product launch animations, social content, podcasts, and event visuals.

  • Own the full pre-production process: concepting, and storyboarding ideas into clear motion beats before a single frame is animated.

  • Translate complex or technical concepts into short, clear stories that a broad audience can understand and remember.

  • Deliver motion assets formatted for web — optimized outputs, appropriate file formats, and clear handoff specs so your work translates from production to the browser without quality loss or rework.

  • Contribute to event assets for live conferences — main stage visuals, screen content, ambient loops, and branded motion moments.

  • Edit video footage into polished, on-brand deliverables (no shooting required).

  • Build and extend Lumin’s motion design system: principles, behaviors, and templates that establish consistency and give others a foundation to build on.

  • Present work clearly to non-designers and bring stakeholders along with well-communicated creative rationale.

  • Actively explore and apply animation and AI tools in the motion workflow — including tools like Jitter, Cavalry, Runway, Adobe Firefly Video, and Pika — to expand what's possible and work smarter.

  • Support digital design needs including presentations in Google Slides and select marketing assets in Figma.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Specifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Motion Design, Film, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • 6-8 years of motion design experience in an agency or B2B SaaS in-house creative team.

  • Portfolio that demonstrates range across brand, product, and narrative motion work — a demo reel or portfolio link is required to be considered for this role.

  • Proven ability to own motion work end-to-end — concept through delivery — not just execute within a defined system.

  • Experience building or meaningfully contributing to a motion design system or brand language.

  • Experience storyboarding and directing motion work, not just producing it.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Expert-level proficiency in After Effects and Premiere Pro.

  • Experience delivering motion for web — you understand the gap between what you build and what ships, and you've navigated file formats, compression, and developer handoff well enough that your work looks right on the other side.

  • Solid Figma skills — used daily, not occasionally.

  • Strong pre-production craft — concepting and storyboarding before animating.

  • Clear, proactive communication; ability to present creative work to non-designers and make thinking legible.

  • Actively uses AI tools in the motion workflow — tools like Runway, Adobe Firefly Video, or Pika are already part of how you work, not something you're planning to explore. You've shipped work that used AI and you know where it helps and where it doesn't.

  • Genuine curiosity about where the motion discipline is heading — already exploring what's next, not waiting to be told.

  • Ability to work independently and manage workload in a fully remote environment.

  • Low-ego collaborator who iterates gracefully and elevates the work without friction.

  • Nice to have: Google Slides proficiency for presentation design and presentation animations.

  • Nice to have: Experience designing for large-format event displays or live conference environments.

  • Nice to have: Background in B2B SaaS, or complex tech product space.

  • Nice to Have: Experience building templates or workflows that help non-motion-designers work with animation confidently.

Travel:

  • Minimal, generally 12 days or less per year, ~2X team get togethers a year

Growth Opportunities:

  • 30 days: Ramped on tools, brand system, and active projects; contributing to motion and digital design requests independently.

  • 90 days: Owning motion briefs end-to-end with minimal oversight; beginning to establish motion design standards and templates.

  • 1 year: Defined Lumin’s motion design language; serving as the internal expert and go-to resource for all animation and video work across the team.
