Overview

AT&T is seeking a Wi-Fi Subject Matter Expert to drive technical excellence across AT&T Fiber and AT&T Internet Air customer premises equipment (CPE) platforms. This role is ideal for engineers with deep Wi-Fi R&D expertise, driver and protocol-level knowledge, and strong systems engineering skills who thrive on solving complex connectivity challenges at scale.

What You'll Do:

  • Drive improvements to connectivity experiences for millions of AT&T customers.
  • Apply automation and AI to accelerate issue resolution and improve product quality.
  • Influence the development of next-generation Wi-Fi platforms and whole-home networking solutions.
  • Play a key role in advancing Wi-Fi 7, future Wi-Fi technologies, and AT&T’s connectivity strategy.
  • You will work across the full product lifecycle—from early development and validation through production operations—leveraging advanced analytics, automation, and AI-driven insights to improve product quality, accelerate issue resolution, and enhance the in-home connectivity experience for millions of customers.

What You'll Bring:

Technical Leadership

  • Lead root cause analysis for complex Wi-Fi issues across gateways, extenders, and client devices.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues at the firmware, driver, protocol, and RF layers.
  • Translate technical findings into product improvements, firmware enhancements, and release readiness criteria.

Analytics & Automation

  • Develop Python-based tools to automate log analysis, anomaly detection, and telemetry correlation.
  • Leverage AI-driven analytics to improve issue detection, triage, and operational efficiency.
  • Define and monitor customer-impacting Wi-Fi performance metrics and KPIs.

Systems Engineering

  • Analyze and troubleshoot issues across hardware, firmware, networking, cloud services, and client ecosystems.
  • Reproduce field issues in lab environments and validate fixes through end-to-end testing.
  • Drive structured, data-driven troubleshooting across complex multi-component systems.

Vendor & Ecosystem Collaboration

  • Partner with chipset vendors, OEMs, and software providers to resolve technical issues and improve product performance.
  • Lead defect reviews and drive timely resolution of critical issues.
  • Influence partner roadmaps through technical expertise and operational insights.

Quality & Release Readiness

  • Integrate operational learnings into certification, validation, and regression testing strategies.
  • Improve launch quality, platform stability, and defect prevention processes.
  • Scale engineering operations through automation, tooling, and observability improvements.

Industry Leadership

  • Contribute to the advancement of Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7, and emerging wireless technologies.
  • Participate in industry standards and technology discussions as appropriate.
  • Advocate for solutions that improve real-world customer connectivity experiences.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Deep expertise in 802.11 protocols, Wi-Fi architectures, and wireless networking fundamentals.
  • Experience debugging firmware, drivers, protocol stacks, and RF performance issues.
  • Strong systems engineering background with proven success troubleshooting complex, cross-functional environments.
  • Experience in Wi-Fi development, platform bring-up, advanced validation, or R&D engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and developing tools for automation, analytics, or log processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical problems and deliver scalable solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing or supporting Wi-Fi 6/6E/7, mesh networking, or whole-home Wi-Fi solutions.
  • Familiarity with leading wireless chipset platforms, including Broadcom, Qualcomm, or MaxLinear.
  • Experience with large-scale telemetry, observability, and data analytics platforms.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML applications in network analytics, operational intelligence, or automation.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering vendors, certification organizations, and product teams.

Our Lead Member of Technical Staff, earns between $180,200-$270,400 USD Annual, Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
