This is a hybrid role at the RTP, NC office.

Meet the Team

The Platform Command Center (PCC) provides centralized monitoring, incident response, and proactive alerting for Cisco Common Platform Services. PCC supports 24x7 operations across critical cloud platform services, partnering with SREs, service owners, operations teams, and AIOps/tooling groups to improve service reliability, reduce operational toil, and prevent customer-impacting incidents.

Your Impact

As a Senior Software Engineer, Platform Automation, you will build AI-enabled tooling, automation, and operational intelligence that helps PCC analysts triage alerts, improve runbooks, accelerate incident response, and drive measurable reliability improvements. This is a hands-on senior IC role for an engineer who can design and deliver production-quality automation while also providing technical leadership across operations, AI tooling, analytics, and platform reliability.

You will work directly with operational teams to understand real-world workflows, identify high-value automation opportunities, and turn those needs into reliable software, dashboards, integrations, and AI-assisted tools.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain automation, tools, and integrations that improve PCC operational efficiency.

  • Develop AI/ML and LLM-assisted workflows for alert triage, correlation, summarization, runbook guidance, and operational decision support.

  • Build dashboards, analytics, and reporting capabilities that surface service health, operational trends, toil, and reliability risks.

  • Partner with PCC analysts, SREs, service owners, and AIOps teams to translate operational pain points into scalable technical solutions.

  • Improve alert response workflows across EMS, ServiceNow, Jira, and related operational systems.

  • Lead technical design discussions, mentor engineers and analysts on automation practices, and raise the quality bar for tooling delivered into operations.

  • Support a 24x7 operations organization through reliable tooling and escalation support, without being assigned to a shift-based analyst schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 7 years of related experience, or Master’s degree plus 4 years of related experience, or PhD plus 1 year of related experience.

  • 5+ years of software development experience, with strong hands-on development skills.

  • Experience building automation, APIs, integrations, or tooling for production operational environments.

  • Understanding of networking fundamentals and cloud/platform operations concepts.

  • Experience with analytics, dashboards, metrics, or operational reporting.

  • Experience applying AI/ML concepts or LLM-based tooling to practical engineering or operations use cases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building agentic or LLM-assisted workflows for operations, support, reliability engineering, or incident response.

  • Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, alert/event management systems, or observability platforms.

  • Experience with data pipelines, structured logging, event correlation, or operational telemetry.

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Linux, CI/CD, and test automation.

  • Communication skills with the ability to work across engineering, operations, and leadership teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior technical leader while remaining hands-on in design and implementation.

  • Experience improving platform reliability, reducing toil, or scaling operational processes through automation.

The role supports a 24x7 operations team but is not a shift-based analyst position.
