Overview
The Fire System Emergency Coordinator is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and operational readiness of all fire and life safety systems at Dallas Love Field, Dallas Executive Airport, and the Vertiport. This role ensures compliance with all Federal, State, and Local life safety regulations, protecting employees, passengers, and the public. The Coordinator manages routine inspections and preventive maintenance, oversees vendor repairs and system upgrades, and coordinates with vendors for all fire systems.
Essential Functions
1 Oversees vendor performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance (PMs) on fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems (dry, wet, pre-action), fire risers, fire panels, and fire extinguishers.
2 Oversees all fire system repairs, programming, and software updates performed by certified contractors, ensuring compliance with City of Dallas (COD) codes and standards.
3 Collaborates with contractors on new installations, remodels, and upgrades for all fire system needs.
4 Issue Hot Work Permits and inspect affected areas before, during, and after hot work activities.
5 Responds to alarms, system troubles, and emergency situations promptly, coordinating with Airport Communications Center (AOC) and relevant personnel.
6 Maintains vendor relationships, monitors maintenance schedules, and ensures timely notifications for ongoing and upcoming service work.
7 Request quotes, prepare documentation, and coordinate Purchase Orders (DOs) for fire system work.
8 Ensures that all vendors comply with NFPA standards, including NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm Systems), NFPA 25 (Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Systems), and NFPA 10 (Portable Fire Extinguishers).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with fire alarm panels (including Siemens, Fire-Lite, and Notifier), fire alarm programming, and system integration.
- Comprehensive knowledge of fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems (dry, wet, and pre-action), and fire protection equipment.
- Strong understanding of NFPA standards and life safety codes, including NFPA 72, NFPA 25, NFPA 10, and applicable Federal, State, Local, and City of Dallas regulations.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, schematics, and system layouts.
- Skill in performing inspections, preventative maintenance, testing, and repairs on complex fire and life safety systems.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple vendors and projects simultaneously while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Proficiency in working with contractors and vendors to meet project specifications, timelines, and compliance requirements.
- Skilled in accurately documenting inspections, maintenance activities, deficiencies, and system updates.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot system issues, alarms, and system troubles.
- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations, prioritize tasks under pressure, and support operational continuity.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with airport operations, internal teams, contractors, regulatory agencies, and city authorities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- High School diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Four (4) years of experience in fire alarm systems, with service and/or installation experience, preferably in airport or large facility environments, including fire suppression systems, life safety systems, or facilities maintenance, within an airport, aviation, transportation, or large commercial environment.
EQUIVALENCIES:
- Associate degree in any field plus four (4) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in a non-specified field four (4) years of required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Fire Protection Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Facilities Management, Aviation Management, or a related field will meet the education and experience requirements.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Available to work 24/7 if needed
- On-call availability for emergencies, alarms, and system issues
- Ability to work on ladders, in confined spaces, and in various environmental conditions as required for inspections and maintenance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fire Alarm License (FAL) preferred
- Experience coordinating or supporting fire alarm technician activities
