We’re partnering with a leading engineering consultancy to secure a highly experienced Track & Civil Engineering leader who thrives on solving complex challenges, influencing major project outcomes, and mentoring the next generation of talent. Role Overview:

This is a senior leadership position responsible for the design, specification, and delivery of Track & Civil engineering services across rail transport projects. You’ll apply deep technical expertise to develop end-to-end solutions, from concept through to detailed design, while navigating complex constraints, competing priorities, and high-stakes coordination across disciplines.

Acting as a trusted advisor to both clients and internal stakeholders, you’ll lead technical decision-making, represent the business in key forums, and ensure delivery excellence across safety, quality, programme, and commercial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of complex rail track and civil infrastructure projects, including alignment, formation, drainage, and earthworks
  • Provide technical leadership and governance, ensuring designs meet compliance, constructability, and quality standards
  • Oversee and review engineering deliverables, calculations, models, and documentation
  • Drive multi-disciplinary integration across track, road, drainage, and structural interfaces
  • Act as a primary client interface, leading technical discussions and resolving critical issues
  • Mentor and develop engineers, designers, and drafters, building team capability and performance
  • Contribute to bids, proposals, and business development activities
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and resources, ensuring commercial and delivery targets are achieved
  • Champion innovation and digital engineering approaches to improve delivery outcomes
  • Maintain and strengthen key client and industry relationships

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, with Chartered status (or eligibility within 6 months)
  • 15+ years’ experience in civil/rail engineering, with a strong focus on track design and delivery
  • Proven expertise in Track & Civil design across major rail infrastructure projects
  • Strong working knowledge of PTA standards and demonstrated delivery to these requirements
  • Proficiency in MicroStation OpenRail, with exposure to tools like 12D Model highly regarded
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, make critical technical decisions, and influence outcomes
  • A recognised technical authority with strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Experience leading teams, managing performance, and developing capability
  • Commercially aware, with experience managing budgets and driving project profitability
  • Naturally collaborative, with a strong network and a passion for continuous improvement and innovation
