Overview
Dynamic Yield by Mastercard is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join the Shopping Muse team.
Shopping Muse is an AI-powered shopping assistant that helps consumers discover products through natural language conversations, personalized recommendations, semantic search, and real-time decision making. As part of the team, you will build and scale backend services that power millions of shopping experiences across leading global brands.
We are looking for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, designing distributed systems, and building reliable, high-performance services at scale.
Role & Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain backend services that power Shopping Muse and related AI-driven experiences.
Build scalable APIs and microservices that support conversational commerce, product discovery, search, and recommendations.
Design and optimize distributed systems with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.
Work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, data scientists, and platform teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
Investigate production issues, analyze system behavior, and drive improvements across the platform.
Lead technical initiatives to improve architecture, observability, performance, and operational excellence.
Participate in technical design discussions and mentor other engineers.
Drive engineering best practices, code quality, testing, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
4+ years of experience building backend systems in production environments.
Strong proficiency in Python.
Experience designing and operating distributed systems and microservices.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Strong knowledge of databases and caching technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, or similar technologies.
Experience building and maintaining REST APIs and high-throughput services.
Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
Experience with search technologies such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
Experience working with recommendation systems, personalization platforms, or AI-powered products.
Experience with large-scale, low-latency systems.
Familiarity with LLMs, conversational AI, or agent-based architectures.
Experience working in customer-facing SaaS environments.
