Concept Engineering Lead, Hardware
Meta is seeking a Concept Engineering Lead to direct the prototyping of Meta's future consumer hardware products. In this role, you will operate at the intersection of hardware, software, and design, applying systems thinking to lead early-stage product concepts from ambiguous ideas into experience prototypes. You will set the technical and strategic direction for Concept Engineering, defining a clear roadmap and driving ongoing project priorities to support and accelerate the various mature and emerging product portfolios. Define and lead the concept engineering strategy for next-generation consumer hardware products, supporting early ideation through proof-of-concept Establish a Concept Engineering architecture frameworks, priorities, and design principles that guide cross-functional hardware development teams across multiple concurrent programs Support the exploration of novel experiences through bespoke hardware-software systems Partner with product management, design, and engineering to answer the most important questions quickly and efficiently Mentor a team of engineers across multiple disciplines, establishing a process for prototype development across the organization Engage directly with executive and product leadership to define concept direction, communicate risks, and make strategic recommendations 12+ years of experience in mechanical or product engineering with a focus on consumer electronics, wearables, or handheld hardware devices Experience leading concept development and architecture definition for complex, multi-disciplinary hardware products from early-stage ideation through to functional prototype Experience driving technical strategy and cross-functional alignment across hardware, design, software, and systems engineering organizations at a program or portfolio level Experience communicating hardware architecture decisions and engineering trade-offs to executive stakeholders Experience in synthesizing requests from a diverse set of stakeholders into a single, manufacturable device Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements) Familiarity with early-stage hardware concept development for wearable or body-worn devices, including technical trade-offs Technical leadership and accountability for a high-complexity project requiring a diverse engineering team Experience with AR wearable devices, including world-locked rendering, calibration, and wearability Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews) Experience building and scaling concept engineering teams or centers of excellence within a hardware product organization Experience with contract manufacturing and proven track record of effectively leveraging vendors for complex engineering work
