CRFS (Cambridge Radio Frequency Systems) is a global leader in RF spectrum monitoring, direction finding, and geolocation technology. Founded in 2007, CRFS designs, builds, programs, and deploys advanced hardware and software solutions that enable military operators, national security agencies, spectrum regulators, and system integrators to detect, identify, and exploit RF signals in the most complex and contested electromagnetic environments.Our RFeye ecosystem comprises rugged RF sensors, direction-finding arrays, and the RFeye Site, Mission Manager, and DeepView software suite. Job Description
Position Summary
CRFS seeks a versatile and proactive Senior Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to serve as the primary technical bridge between our engineering team and our diverse customer base. In this role, you will provide expert-level support, hands-on training, and troubleshooting for complex RF systems and networked solutions. This position is based at CFRS' U.S. headquarters located in Reston, VA, and is a hybrid role.
The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic environments, whether working independently or collaborating with a team. A strong background in RF theory, a "can-learn" attitude, and a passion for solving problems in the field are key requirements. The Senior Field Applications Engineer will report to the Manager of the US FAE Team on the US Field Applications Engineering team.
Role and Responsibilities
- Customer Support: Provide high-tier technical assistance remotely and on-site to ensure mission success for a diverse range of CRFS customers.
- Technical Training: Maintain and deliver comprehensive training to end users, ranging from basic system and software operation to advanced system use.
- Diagnostic Troubleshooting: Perform diagnostics and high-level repairs on CRFS equipment both in the office and in the field.
- Field Integration and Support: Deploy to customer locations to support, configure, and assist with the installation of CRFS equipment.
- Technical Reports: Develop test plans and summary project reports to support customer exercises and field activities.
- Sales Support: Support Sales Teams with system capability demonstrations and technical advice to advance sales objectives.
- Inventory Management: Proactively manage all demonstration equipment and inventory to ensure it is calibrated, updated, and ready for deployment at all times.
- Feedback Loop: Act as the voice of the customer, relaying field data and feature requests back to the appropriate internal teams to drive product improvement.
- Travel Requirement: Up to 50% travel, primarily domestic with some international, to customer sites and trade events.
- Perform other related duties of which the above are representative.

Basic Requirements
Required Qualifications
- RF Expertise: Solid understanding of RF concepts (frequency, power, spectrum analysis) and proficiency with test equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, and multimeters.
- Degree: B.S. in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a related technical field (relevant military technical school experience will be considered in lieu of a degree).
- ESD Skills: Experience working on static sensitive equipment in ESD controlled environments
- Networking Knowledge: Basic to intermediate networking skills (TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs, and hardware configuration).
- Technical Literacy: Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with specialized software and standard OS environments.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional oral and written communication skills; ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Adaptability: A proven ability to learn new technologies rapidly and the discipline to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Mobility: Must be willing and able to travel frequently to support customer requirements.
- Safety: Knowledge and experience of safe working practices including risk assessment and mitigation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Military/Government Background: Experience working within DoD, Government, or defense contracting environments is highly desirable.
- Security Clearance: Active or prior Secret/TS clearance is preferred, or the demonstrated ability to achieve one.
- Autonomy: Demonstrated track record of managing field schedules and customer relationships independently, acting as the face of the company in the field.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Standard office environment with access to engineering labs and test equipment.
- Trade shows, exhibitions, and industry events (e.g., AUSA, AOC Symposium, DSEi).
- Outdoor or field environments for RF demonstrations, sensor deployments, and customer trials.
- Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and environmental conditions when performing field tests or demonstrations.
- While performing the duties of this role, the employee may be required to:
- Lift and transport RF equipment up to 20 lbs. for demonstrations and field deployments.
- Perform bending, reaching, and kneeling movements to access equipment and cabling.
- Handle incoming hardware shipments of up to 50 lbs. as required.
