The Vice President of Community Health Impact (CHI) provides executive leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the organization's portfolio of community health programs and provides strategic guidance and thought leadership for the development and execution of health equity strategy across the system. This role is responsible for advancing the mission to improve community well-being and reduce avoidable gaps through coordinated strategy, innovation, and collaboration across the enterprise and in community. This role will collaborate closely with clinical service lines to create and foster a partnership to ensure all patients and community members have access to community programming and initiatives. The VP oversees the Healthier Communities team and strategy, ensuring effective delivery, growth, and sustainability within the Centers for Wellness and portfolio of programming. This will include scaling of programming and building a shared service infrastructure in response to the health and social needs of the community throughout the state.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute the strategic plan for Community Health Impact (CHI) in alignment with organizational priorities, goals, and community benefit requirements. Ongoing refinement and socialization of the strategy for advancing health equity across the system.
  • Develop and execute a strategy for educating internal and external stakeholders and communicating progress on the health equity strategy, inclusive of Health Equity curriculum, board and team members updates, popular press articles, media spots, and other education platform/vehicles.
  • Establish state and national thought leadership through presentations, publications, interviews, op-eds, public comment, and board and task force positions.
  • Lead long-range planning, operational alignment, and innovation strategic to improve access, equity, and community outcomes.
  • Partner with executive leadership, clinical teams, and external partners to expand CHI’s reach and measurable impact across all regions.
  • Effectively manages operations to ensure provision of high-quality care and achievement of Corewell Health standards; initiates proactive / corrective actions as needed.
  • Assures effective financial management and budget performance of all assigned operations that support achievement of system targets.
  • In conjunction with strategy and business development, provides leadership and administrative direction for Community Health Impact. Oversees and monitors the implementation of the approved plan to support achievement of established System goals.
  • Promotes positive working relationships with staff, clinical service lines, community partners; provides appropriate leadership and assistance toward the goal that everyone receives the best care possible.
  • Assures an active community relations and involvement program, including personal participation in community activities and professional associations.
  • In partnership with the CCAC board chair and Sr. Director of Healthier Communities West, leads the Community Commitment Advisory Committee, including partnering with the board chair on facilitating the governance board meetings. Ensures strict adherence to the HC budget, including all appropriate oversight, budget development and monthly reporting. Sets benchmarks for financial portfolio and ensure targets are met.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Clinical Officer, assures appropriate distribution of community benefit funds within the community as they align to strategic partnerships for CHI and Corewell Health.
  • Provides oversight and approval of the internal community grants process. When appropriate, local and regional stakeholders for input and feedback.
  • Collaborates with urban and rural community organizations, and supports initiatives which align to Corewell Health strategic priorities.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional self-development through participation in professional associations and executive/leadership forums and program.

Qualifications

  •  Required Bachelor's Degree in business, health care administration or related field, or equivalent
  • Required Master's Degree in healthcare administration, Public Administration or Business Administration from an accredited college or university, or equivalent
  • 10 years of relevant experience leadership experience Required
  • 5 years of relevant experience in healthcare industry or related field. Required
  • 5 years of relevant experience Project management, strategic planning, leading cross-functional teams to drive success and meet organizational goals, reporting out on metrics and outcomes, developing communications for senior executive audiences. Required
  • 5 years of relevant experience Successful leadership experience with highly productive and collaborative relationships with multi-disciplinary teams, physicians and other healthcare providers. Required
