Our team partners closely with Walmart U.S. stores and the eCommerce business to create innovative solutions that empower customers, associates, stores, and merchants across digital and in-store experiences.We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Web to join our Checkout team, where you will play a key role in shaping one of the most important experiences on Walmart.com: checkout. This team is responsible for building fast, intuitive, and dependable web experiences that help customers complete their purchases with ease and confidence.
In this role, you will design, build, and optimize modern web applications that support a seamless checkout journey at scale. You will work across product, UX, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions, improve platform performance, and help drive the evolution of the checkout experience.
The Checkout team owns the customer journey from cart to order placement. This is a high-impact opportunity for an engineer who is passionate about building exceptional web experiences, solving complex technical challenges, and contributing to the future of eCommerce at Walmart.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable web applications that power the Walmart.com checkout experience.
- Build intuitive, responsive, and accessible user interfaces that deliver a seamless customer experience across devices and browsers.
- Partner closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate business and customer needs into high-quality technical solutions.
- Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions that improve performance, reliability, maintainability, and scalability.
- Optimize web applications for speed, usability, observability, and operational excellence.
- Drive engineering best practices including code reviews, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement durable solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a strong culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and innovation.
- Explore and apply emerging technologies, including GenAI-powered capabilities, where they can improve developer productivity or customer experience.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong experience building modern web applications using JavaScript, TypeScript, GraphQL, HTML, and CSS.
- Hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React, Next.js, or similar technologies.
- Solid understanding of web application architecture, API integration, state management, performance optimization, and responsive design.
- Experience building scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems in a production environment.
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices including testing, version control, CI/CD, and code quality standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction across cross-functional teams.
- Experience working on high-traffic, customer-facing products where quality, performance, and reliability are critical.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ Years of experience on building Web applications using React, NextJS and GraphQL at scale .
- Experience on building or supporting checkout, cart, payments, or other transactional eCommerce experiences.
- Experience with GenAI, LLM-powered applications, or AI-assisted developer and customer-facing workflows.
- Familiarity with Node.js, server-side rendering, or full-stack web development.
- Knowledge of accessibility (A11y) , internationalization (i18n) standards and best practices for building inclusive digital experiences.
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and debugging tools in large-scale production systems.
- Exposure to cloud platforms and modern deployment environments.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives across teams.
- Understanding of experimentation, A/B testing, and data-informed product development.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
