Senior Sustaining Engineer

Bevi · Boston

Bevi is on a mission to transform how beverages are delivered and consumed. Our connected beverage platform eliminates the need for single-use bottles and cans, making it easy, fun, and sustainable to stay hydrated. As the category leader in IoT-enabled beverage technology, we're building a future where Bevi machines are everywhere people live, work, and connect. We've raised over $160M in venture capital, serve thousands of customers across the US, Canada, UK and Ireland, and we've been rapidly growing year over year, saving over 1 billion bottles from waste. In addition to driving hypergrowth with our current product line, Bevi is heavily investing in new product development.

We are seeking a Senior Sustaining Engineer to join our Hardware Sustaining team and lead continuous-improvement initiatives end to end. A successful candidate will lead projects from problem definition through change release with minimal oversight, set the technical direction for root cause investigations, and raise the bar on engineering rigor across the team. Beyond executing individual projects, this person will help shape sustaining strategy, establish processes and standards, partner with cross-functional leaders, and mentor junior engineers.

You’ll take continuous improvement projects from initial analysis through change release — diagnosing problems, scoping the engineering work cleanly, and partnering with others across Bevi to implement and verify fixes and improvements. Success in this role directly improves product quality, reliability, and the customer experience across Bevi’s installed base.

Your Day to Day

Mechanical Investigation & Root Cause

  • Lead the design, analysis, and testing of parts, components, and systems for sustaining and continuous-improvement programs, owning them from initial analysis through change release
  • Drive complex product failure investigations, setting the approach for root cause analysis, containment, and corrective action on the issues that most affect quality, cost, and field reliability
  • Apply statistical methods and perform product/process analysis to drive quality improvements, cost reduction, and improved reliability — and coach others in their use
  • Assist in defining and prioritizing the sustaining team roadmap in partnership with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Product

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Serve as project leader and independent reviewer in design reviews for changes to existing products
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to coordinate implementation of engineering and process changes through ECOs
  • Support relationships with outside vendors and suppliers, including on sourcing changes, component qualification, and second-source efforts
  • Provide structured feedback to the New Product Development (NPD) team to improve next-gen designs, drawing on field and manufacturing data
  • Mentor and develop associate and mid-level sustaining engineers, and help establish best practices across the function

Change Implementation & Documentation

  • Create and release ECOs/ECNs and update BOMs, drawings, fixtures/tooling, and supporting documentation for mechanical changes
  • Develop and execute test methods to validate fixes and verify compliance
  • Support component end-of-life and obsolescence engineering activities for mechanical components
  • Own change-control standards for the sustaining team, and drive process improvements as the function evolves

Requirements

Required

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of product design or sustaining engineering experience, including ownership of complex projects from concept through release
  • Expert proficiency with SOLIDWORKS or similar 3D CAD programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Deep experience designing for injection molding, sheet metal, machining, and other manufacturing processes
  • Proven track record of robust root cause analysis and corrective action on production and design issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills

Preferred

  • Experience with Arena PLM
  • Experience with IoT or connected hardware products
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering tools such as MTBF and MTTF
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading a small technical team
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
