About the Role
We are looking for a Managing Director of Operational Finance to lead the financial planning, reporting, controls, and analytics capability for Nscale's infrastructure delivery and operations portfolio.
This role will provide the financial intelligence, reporting architecture, and operational insight required for executive decision-making across datacentre buildouts, power infrastructure, manufacturing activity, and other capital-intensive programmes. You will partner closely with Business Operations, Engineering, Commercial, and Finance leaders to connect infrastructure investment with business outcomes, improve forecast accuracy, and ensure leaders have a trusted view of CapEx, OpEx, delivery performance, and financial risk.
This is a high-ownership leadership role for someone who can build a function, operate at executive level, and stay close enough to the detail to make reporting, forecasting, and controls work in practice.
What You'll be Doing
- Own divisional FP&A, including annual budgets, rolling forecasts, monthly variance analysis, CapEx and OpEx tracking, and executive-level financial reporting.
- Build the financial operating model for infrastructure delivery, including cost centre structures, allocation logic, reporting hierarchies, and governance processes that can scale with the business.
- Partner with senior leaders on financial modelling for new programmes, site investments, capacity planning, deployment timelines, and capital allocation decisions.
- Monitor deployment costs against targets, identify material variances early, and provide clear recommendations to support corrective action.
- Establish and govern financial controls and approval frameworks, ensuring spend is authorised, tracked, reconciled, and aligned to approved budgets before commitments are made.
- Own the divisional financial close process, coordinating with corporate Finance on period-end submissions, accruals, true-ups, and management reporting.
- Lead scenario modelling and sensitivity analysis for major capital deployment decisions, giving executives a data-backed view of financial risk, upside, and trade-offs.
- Build and maintain KPI frameworks and executive dashboards across delivery performance, Time-to-Power, vendor SLAs, cost performance, and overall financial health.
- Oversee the analytics and BI outputs that support operational and executive decision-making, ensuring reporting is accurate, current, and trusted.
- Lead, develop, and scale a high-performing operational finance and analytics team with a culture of rigour, business partnership, and continuous improvement.
About You
- 12+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, operational finance, business analytics, or related leadership roles.
- Strong experience in infrastructure, datacentre, manufacturing, energy, cloud, telecommunications, or another capital-intensive environment.
- Proven ability to build and lead finance, FP&A, or analytics functions from early-stage foundations into scaled operating capability.
- Deep understanding of CapEx and OpEx management, forecasting, variance analysis, financial controls, and executive reporting.
- Strong financial modelling capability, particularly for capital programmes, capacity planning, cost forecasting, and investment decision support.
- Experience building KPI frameworks, dashboards, and reporting outputs that are used by senior leaders to make operational decisions.
- Executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to translate financial and operational complexity into clear narratives for leadership and board-level audiences.
- High ownership, sound judgement, and the ability to operate comfortably between strategy, systems, data, and hands-on execution.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting datacentre development, power infrastructure, AI infrastructure, GPU cloud, or large-scale technical operations.
- Familiarity with BI, operational reporting, and platform ecosystems such as Jira, ServiceNow, Sunbird DCIM, Linear, Procore, Salesforce, or similar tools.
- CPA, CFA, MBA, or a relevant advanced qualification.
- Experience partnering with Engineering, Commercial, Procurement, and Operations teams in a fast-scaling environment.
- Exposure to board reporting, investment committee materials, or executive-level capital allocation decisions.
