Messaging Senior Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Messaging Senior Engineer based in Mexico.

This is a highly technical, senior-level engineering role within a global IT environment, focused on delivering and evolving enterprise messaging services across Microsoft 365 and hybrid Exchange infrastructures. You will play a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of mission-critical email systems used across international teams. The position combines deep hands-on engineering with architectural guidance, incident leadership, and project delivery. You will contribute to large-scale transformations such as tenant migrations, cloud integrations, and security modernization initiatives. Operating in a complex, multi-vendor ecosystem, you will collaborate with global stakeholders, external providers, and internal engineering teams. This role is ideal for a specialist who thrives on solving advanced messaging challenges while driving continuous service improvement.

Accountabilities

  • Manage and support enterprise O365 messaging environments, including Exchange Online and hybrid Exchange infrastructures, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance across global operations.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise in Microsoft 365 messaging services, with a primary focus on Exchange architecture, mail flow, routing, connectors, and transport configurations.
  • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex incidents, escalations, and service disruptions, using advanced diagnostics such as message tracing, logs, and PowerShell analysis.
  • Configure and manage security and compliance solutions, including Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Microsoft Purview, and Proofpoint, ensuring alignment with best practices.
  • Support and execute key messaging projects such as tenant migrations, cross-tenant coexistence, integrations, and service optimization initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell to streamline administration, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors and managed service providers to ensure service delivery meets agreed SLAs, quality standards, and security requirements.
  • Monitor service health, generate telemetry reports, and contribute to capacity planning, cost optimization, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • 7+ years of hands-on experience in Microsoft 365 messaging engineering, Exchange Online, and hybrid Exchange environments (Exchange Server 2016/2019).
    • Strong expertise in mail flow architecture, transport rules, routing, connectors, and email security protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, TLS).
    • Deep knowledge of Microsoft 365 security and compliance tools, including Defender for Office 365, Purview, and Proofpoint.
    • Proven experience in cross-tenant migrations, coexistence scenarios, and integration with third-party migration and archiving tools.
    • Advanced PowerShell scripting skills for Microsoft 365, Exchange, and Azure AD automation and troubleshooting.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex messaging issues using logs, traces, and system data.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
    • Microsoft certifications such as Messaging Administrator Associate or Enterprise Administrator Expert are considered a strong advantage.
