Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Network Engineer III (26-221) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.
In this role, the candidate will serve as a Network Development Engineer, helping with buildouts and deployments into the operational environment as needed. They will work closely with an Agile Scrum team, planning tasks based on customer requirements and contractual commitments. Furthermore, the candidate will function as a key Network Engineer supporting the C2BMC Program.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for planning, deploying, integrating, and testing upgrades to the C2BMC network at operational sites
Will be responsible for traveling to remote locations to lead and execute network installations, troubleshoot independently, and update Program personnel on status
Basic Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
Applicants must have a current, active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their DoD 8140 certification throughout the entire contract period
Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs, including alternating work locations such as Schriever Space Force Base, Alaska, Guam, and Europe, to perform job duties such as deployments
This role requires candidates to demonstrate foundational networking knowledge through an industry‑recognized certification. Specifically, you must hold either: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) – which validates skills in networking fundamentals, IP connectivity, IP services, security fundamentals, and basic automation and programmability in Cisco environments; OR Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA) – which validates similar core networking skills focused on Juniper technologies, including networking fundamentals, routing and switching concepts, basic configuration and troubleshooting, and familiarity with Junos OS
Must be a proven network engineer with hands-on mid-level experience and knowledge of network design, development, and testing methodologies
Must have a strong understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, as well as routing protocols BGP and OSPF
Must have network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills
Must have firewall experience – especially with Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto
Candidates must have experience with UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE tunnels, and TCP/IP network design
Must have hands-on experience with multi-vendor switching and routing (Juniper, Cisco), WAN optimizers, TACLANEs, and optical transport equipment
Must demonstrate strong communication, excellent writing and presentation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint and Visio
Must excel and perform your best work in a collaborative and Agile setting
Must understand standard DOD security practices, including STIG compliance and system accreditation procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with virtualization technologies – NFV, SDWAN, VMware, VMware Cloud Foundation, NSX, vSAN, and Aria is highly desired
Experience with network automation using Ansible is highly desired
Prior C2BMC experience is preferred

Primary Level Salary Range: $94,200.00 - $141,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
