Why Hover wants you

As the Engineering Manager for our 3D Measurements team, you'll lead one of Hover's most visible and impactful engineering teams. The 3D Measurements team is responsible for calculating and publishing the measurement data our customers rely on every day. From roof area and wall dimensions to ridge, rake, and eave measurements. The team also owns the systems that generate customer-facing artifacts and power interactive 3D visualizations of properties across Hover's platform.

This role sits at the intersection of computational geometry, graphics engineering, backend systems, and people leadership. You'll lead a highly technical team while remaining close to the technology itself, partnering with engineers to solve challenging geometry problems, improve measurement accuracy, modernize our rendering stack, and explore next-generation technologies like WebGPU.

You will contribute by

Leading and growing a highly technical team responsible for the measurement systems and 3D experiences that power Hover's products. You'll set the technical direction for measurement accuracy, rendering technologies, and platform modernization while partnering closely with Product, Modeling, and CV/ML teams to deliver meaningful customer impact.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll remain close to the technology, partnering with engineers on architecture decisions, debugging complex systems, and solving challenging computational geometry and graphics problems (you are expected to code with the team for 1-2 days a week). You'll help drive technical excellence across the team while evaluating emerging technologies that can improve performance, scalability, and customer outcomes.

You'll also play a key role in hiring and developing exceptional engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Your background includes

  • 1–2+ years of engineering management experience leading software engineering teams.
  • 6+ years of experience as a hands-on engineer in graphics engineering, computational geometry, CAD systems, rendering technologies, or related domains.
  • Deep understanding of 3D mathematics, geometry, spatial reasoning, and computational algorithms.
  • Eagerness to stay hands-on and write code (1-2 days per week) alongside the team. 
  • Proven experience mentoring, coaching, and developing engineers at different stages of their careers.
  • Strong project leadership and execution skills with the ability to balance technical priorities and business objectives.
  • Experience operating in fast-moving startup or growth-stage environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A pragmatic, non-dogmatic approach to technology and problem solving.
  • Enthusiasm for leveraging modern engineering tools and AI-assisted development workflows.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern web graphics technologies.
  • Experience with Three.js, WebGL, WebGPU, or related rendering frameworks.
  • Experience building or maintaining large-scale geometry processing systems.
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, digital twin, mapping, or simulation platforms.
  • Familiarity with WebAssembly (WASM) and performance-critical browser applications.
  • Experience working across both frontend rendering systems and backend computational services.
  • Experience with cloud-based distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.

Hybrid roles at Hover

Hover has Hubs in San Francisco and New York City, where we expect that all employees living within a 50-mile radius of our offices will come into their local Hover office at least three times a week to build rapport and foster organic connection. At this time, Hover is not considering fully remote roles.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $190,000 - $235,000 annually. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all applicable US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
