A strong emphasis is placed on building a healthy, high-performing team culture centered on accountability, growth, and engineering excellence. You will also play a key role in improving system observability, reliability, and operational maturity. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape both engineering strategy and the systems powering critical financial operations.
Accountabilities:
- Lead, mentor, and support a distributed team of engineers through 1:1s, performance management, career development, and continuous feedback.
- Own delivery of payments-related systems, including registration, billing, subscriptions, payouts, financial workflows, and third-party integrations.
- Partner with Product, Design, and cross-functional leaders to define priorities, clarify requirements, and manage technical and delivery tradeoffs.
- Contribute hands-on to backend development, including APIs, services, event-driven systems, data models, and production troubleshooting.
- Drive architectural decisions across distributed systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, observability, and long-term maintainability.
- Improve engineering standards through code reviews, testing practices, documentation, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Lead incident response and production support, ensuring rapid resolution and continuous system improvement.
- Break down complex initiatives into structured delivery plans with clear sequencing, risk management, and execution clarity.
- Foster a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations, aligning goals, and enabling team growth.

- Deep understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, APIs, queues, background jobs, and relational databases.
- Proven ability to lead engineering teams, mentor developers, and manage performance and career growth.
- Strong technical judgment with the ability to balance architecture tradeoffs and contribute hands-on when needed.
- Experience improving system reliability, observability, incident response, and operational maturity in production environments.
- Familiarity with payment systems, subscriptions, or financial workflows (e.g., Stripe or similar) is a strong plus.
