The Role: 

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Accounting, to join our Finance team. As a Senior Manager, Accounting, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. 

In this role, you will own the day-to-day general ledger and monthly close processes, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of IonQ’s financial records in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. You will play a meaningful part in accelerating the close process, strengthening internal controls, and building scalable accounting processes that support IonQ’s rapid growth. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth public company environment and is energized by the opportunity to build and develop a high-performing team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of journal entries, account reconciliations, and analyses in accordance with U.S. GAAP;
  • Manage and review general ledger activities, including the review of complex accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, capitalized software, inventory and other accounting areas to ensure data integrity and proper classification;
  • Maintain ownership of SOX controls associated with the accounting close and general ledger processes; prepare and maintain documentation and work with internal and external auditors to facilitate quarterly reviews and the annual audit;
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Financial Reporting, Tax, FP&A, and Treasury to support preparation of monthly and quarterly analyses as required;
  • Prepare and review management reporting package analytics, variance analyses, and supporting schedules for the board of directors, senior management, and external auditors;
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, providing ongoing coaching and career development support;
  • Support acquisition integration activities as needed;
  • Drive continuous improvements in the close process, leveraging automation and system enhancements to increase efficiency and scalability; and
  • Support the Office of the Global Controller on special projects and other ad hoc initiatives as needed.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of relevant accounting work experience required
  • 3+ years of public company accounting work experience required
  • Active CPA designation
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SOX compliance requirements
  • High competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical abilities; organized with exceptional attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet project deadlines, and deliver in a fast-paced environment with tight close timelines
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Public company close experience preferred
  • NetSuite experience preferred
  • Big 4 or public accounting firm experience preferred
  • Experience with SaaS, technology, or high-growth companies preferred
  • Familiarity with technical accounting topics including ASC 842 leases and/or international GAAP-to-U.S. GAAP differences
  • Strong desire and ability to develop new skills quickly in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and continuously improve processes

The approximate base salary range for this position is $128,445 - $167,497. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefit options found on our career site.

Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity.  Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available.
