Main Grade Lecturer - Sociology

Barnet and Southgate College · Barnet


We are looking for an outstanding and enthusiastic A-level Sociology teacher to join our successful department, ideally this will be to start in September 2026. Sociology is a popular choice at A- level and the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to an experienced and vibrant team. Within the role is the opportunity to act as Subject Leader for Sociology . 

All applicants must have a relevant degree and full teaching qualification.  Recent experience of teaching business is essential. NQTs are welcome to apply.

Interviews will be held on 8th July 2026.

1.         To teach A-level Sociology , following the AQA specification.

2.         To plan and carry out associated administrative work associated with that teaching.

3.         To take responsibility for accurate record keeping, effective tracking of students and prompt submission of required statistical data.

4.         To contribute to subject teams by, for example, developing new curriculum materials, liasing with part time colleagues and attending team meetings.

5.         To liase with other staff and the management team as appropriate.

6.         To act as a personal tutor to a range of students, if so required, and attend course tutor meetings.

7.         To undertake staff development, including CPD.

8.         To carry out other duties commensurate to the grade and scope of the post as may be required from time to time.

9.         To use new learning technologies in undertaking your duties as appropriate (Barnet and Southgate College undertakes to provide training for staff to achieve relevant basic competencies where required).

10.       To carry out duties at all times with due regard to the College Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, No Smoking and Quality Management Policies.

The College will refund the cost of regular eye tests for staff that use Display Screen Equipment regularly as part of their duties.

 Gym Facilities

Our Sports Centre at Southgate Campus is available for all staff with cardio, strength and conditioning equipment. The 2-floor gym is free for members of staff to use Monday to Friday within term time.

A range of competitively-priced hairdressing services are accessible at our Colindale Campus. Regularly providing special staff offers which is convenient during lunch hours or after work.
