About Lendable

Lendable is on a mission to build the world's best technology to help people get credit and save money. We're building one of the world’s leading fintech companies and are off to a strong start:

  • One of the UK’s newest unicorns with a team of just over 700 people

  • Among the fastest-growing tech companies in the UK

  • Profitable since 2017

  • Backed by top investors including Balderton Capital and Goldman Sachs

  • Loved by customers with the best reviews in the market (4.9 across 10,000s of reviews on Trustpilot)

So far, we’ve rebuilt the Big Three consumer finance products from scratch: loans, credit cards and car finance. We get money into our customers’ hands in minutes instead of days.

We’re growing fast, and there’s a lot more to do: we’re going after the two biggest Western markets (UK and US) where trillions worth of financial products are held by big banks with dated systems and painful processes.

Join us if you want to

  1. Take ownership across a broad remit. You are trusted to make decisions that drive a material impact on the direction and success of Lendable from day 1

  2. Work in small teams of exceptional people, who are relentlessly resourceful to solve problems and find smarter solutions than the status quo

  3. Build the best technology in-house, using new data sources, machine learning and AI to make machines do the heavy lifting

We’re looking for a Frontend Software Engineer, with strong Typescript and React/NextJS experience, to join our US loans team. This is a cross-functional team tasked with delivering new features and technical refinements on one of our fastest growing products, Unsecured Loans, tackling the toughest and most dynamic credit market in the world, the United States.

There’s lots to do, from building out new user journeys and optimising conversion rates in our existing funnels, and answering questions with experiments and fast iteration, to maintaining, refactoring & improving our codebase and tooling.

Our ideal engineer is proactive, product-oriented, detail focused and resourceful, keen to understand the bigger picture outside of their product team and working at pace, contributing to wider engineering and business initiatives that help us further scale our products as we continue to grow.

What we’re looking for

Essential:

  • 3+ years experience.

  • Strong knowledge of modern Javascript with Typescript and React.js

  • Commercial experience with the latest versions of NextJS.

  • Good understanding of automated testing in software development, and take a pragmatic approach to implementing and improving the various phases of the testing pyramid.

  • Able to identify and assess technical debt and are a vocal advocate for prioritising code improvements alongside feature work whenever the opportunity arises.

  • Solid understanding of the importance of catering to users with accessibility needs, and familiarity with approaches and tooling required to ensure accessibility guidelines and best practices are adhered to.

  • Proactive in taking ownership over your work and collaborating with product, ensuring progress by communicating blockers, seeking feedback, and driving tasks to completion.

  • Comfortable working with product owners and senior engineers to identify the difficulties of implementing a feature from an initial design wireframe or outline spec and are not afraid to put forward alternative approaches where you feel it appropriate.

Desirable:

  • Experience working at a Fintech or startup/scaleup environment.

  • Experience working on financial systems.

  • A keen desire to want to learn and input into a highly collaborative team.

What would make you stand out

  • You have experience working on multi-product web applications in a monorepo environment (we use Turborepo).

  • You have worked with modern React functionality such as Server Components, and the NextJS app folder, and have a good understanding of how you would approach a migration toward this new architecture.

  • You’ve worked with OpenAPI/Swagger specifications to help define API requirements and contracts, collaborating with backend developers to agree on best approaches when scoping work that requires new and updated schemas.

  • You have demonstrable experience with web performance best practices and debugging.

  • You’ve employed staged rollouts and multivariate testing approaches to release new features and test hypotheses

  • You have experience of UI or UX design. You feel at ease discussing design decisions with product managers and designers, and are happy to get involved in putting forward ideas when required

  • A Cognitive test - short 15 minute test to complete in your own time

  • An introductory phone call with one of the team to talk through your experience, and answer any initial questions you have about the role.

  • A short coding exercise to complete in your own time

  • A technical interview with your peers where you’ll talk through some problems and scenarios, and dig deeper into your technical experience and knowledge

  • A culture add with an Engineering Manager to better understand your ways of working, assess how you could play a part in your team’s success, and get a good idea what we can do to help you thrive in your role.
