Saudi Arabia: Senior Structural Engineer

As a member of the Middle East Engineering Support team, this candidate will be expected to work closely with regional and operational managers to ensure H&P’s engineering needs are met for each middle east country that we operate in. The candidate will work seamlessly with other engineers, drafting and field inspectors to accomplish the tasks at hand. The engineer will also interact with other H&P groups such as Marketing, Bids & Contracts group as well as Maintenance and Overhaul teams. The engineer will supply drawings, advisory and answer any engineering related requests from districts and field personnel. The engineer will be tasked with a multitude of drilling rig specific design projects, large scale project management, critical event advisory as well as CAT III & IV inspection related issues or development. This position also encompasses working large scale project management in concert with our Houston Assembly Facility. Being a senior engineer, the candidate will be expected to mentor within the group and be flexible to assist and advise across other H&P engineering groups as needed. The engineer will be expected to have the ability to operate autonomously and receive little guidance for proper high level project management. This engineer is expected to be a leader within the engineering group and will be held to very high standards of work output and deliverables.

What you will do:

  • Coordinate construction projects with local fabricators and H&P Houston assembly facility..
  • Design new structures and analyze current builds for modification projects.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with H&P’s primary fabrication facilities.
  • Create and distribute necessary “Certificate of Compliance” documents for various H&P designs.
  • Work with International Marketing groups in preparing proposals, budget estimates and schedules.
  • Formalize technical reports from design analysis.
  • Review and check coworker design packages.
  • Author standardized technical letters specific to rig functions and equipment design for customer feedback.
  • Provide technical support for operations on structural repairs, in field upgrades as well as CAT III & IV inspections.
  • Mentor junior engineers and be available to advise cross functionally throughout the company.
  • Conduct in field audits and reviews of existing equipment.
  • Travel to the field and rigs to support ongoing upgrades and inspections. Overnight stays in the field on occasion.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Saudi Consul of Engineering Certified
  • Minimum of 8 years of structural design experience, ability to formalize design reports, perform and organize hand calculations and computer aided design analysis.
  • Experience with drilling rig design.
  • Professional Engineer license
  • Knowledgeable on AISC design practices
  • Knowledgeable on API specification and recommended practices
  • Knowledgeable on general structural steel fabrication practices
  • Knowledgeable with hydraulic systems
  • Must have the ability to lead projects and be a self-starter.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and CAD software
  • Team player with a Humble, Hungry and Smart attitude and work ethic.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong Ability to work and communicate with office, shop, and oil field personnel.
  • Some international and in-country travel required to fabrication facilities, assembly facilities,
    and rig locations.
