Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Sr Structural Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to work on the premier Infrastructure project in the US.

Program background

The Gateway Program is the most urgent infrastructure program in the country – a comprehensive set of rail investments that will improve commuter and intercity services, add needed resiliency and, in its later stages, create new capacity between Newark, New Jersey and New York City, the busiest section of the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The first phase of the Gateway Program includes the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP), which includes the construction of a new two-track tunnel under the Hudson River connecting to Penn Station New York as well as the full rehabilitation of the existing 110-year-old North River Tunnel. The Gateway Development Commission (GDC), established through bi-state legislation, is responsible for the financing and development of the Hudson Tunnel Project.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Gateway Tunnel Project is now hiring a Senior Structural Engineer for Surface Alignment Contract to join our team. The successful candidate will work on design and construction of complex structures including bridges, abutments, foundations, retaining structures, underpinning, support of excavation and miscellaneous structures for this contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee structural surveys of existing rail bridges, abutments, retaining walls, etc

  • Review structural survey reports, repair details, etc

  • Review structural design for bridge superstructure, abutments and foundations for rail bridges, soil retaining structures per AREMA requirements

  • Review structural design for bridge superstructure, abutments and foundations for vehicular bridges, soil retaining structures per AASHTO requirements

  • Review structural design for miscellaneous structures per IBC requirements

  • Prepare design calculations and engineering reports to verify structural design of the bridges, abutments, foundations and soil retaining structures, etc

  • Perform constructability assessment of proposed structural systems of bridges, abutments, foundations, soil retaining structures, etc

  • Prepare and review specifications

  • QA/QC of design calculations and engineering reports prepared by others

  • Perform construction support and field oversight during construction of bridges, abutments, foundations, soil retaining structures, etc

  • Attend meetings, work with contractors, perform regular site visits and provide engineering services during construction

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Master of Science degree in structural engineering preferred.

  • 10 -15 years of related work experience preferably in northern New Jersey/NYC area

  • Professional Engineer registration in State of New Jersey and/or State of New York

  • Efficient in structural analysis of bridges, abutments, foundations, support of excavation systems, retaining structures with commonly used structural software such as CSiBridge, LEAP bridge, etc

  • Familiarity with AREMA, AASHTO, IBC, NJDOT and Amtrak codes, manuals, standards

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Local resident of NYC metro tri-state area

  • Be able to work at the PMO Field Office in NJ as well as the PMO Office in NJ @ 3 Penn Plaza

Salary Range: $112,200.00 - $196,400.00
