What You'll Do

We are seeking a Civil Engineer to support the evaluation, design, permitting, and execution of facility development projects across our growing portfolio. As part of our vertically integrated engineering team, you will be responsible for assessing site feasibility, utility infrastructure, drainage systems, grading, ADA compliance, and external utility coordination.

This role is highly focused on existing-site evaluation and infrastructure strategy. We are looking for engineers who can quickly assess site constraints, understand utility availability and capacity, and develop practical, cost-effective solutions that support project schedules and operational requirements.

You will work closely with Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Geotechnical, Construction, Development, and Operations teams to ensure sites are designed for constructability, regulatory compliance, and long-term operational success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform site due diligence assessments for prospective and active development projects.
  • Investigate local permitting requirements, utility regulations, development standards, and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Evaluate existing utility infrastructure, including:
    • Domestic water
    • Fire water
    • Sanitary sewer
    • Storm drainage
    • Natural gas
    • Electrical service infrastructure
  • Coordinate with utility providers to determine service availability, capacities, connection requirements, and upgrade needs.
  • Develop utility connection strategies from public infrastructure to building connection points.
  • Design and coordinate:
    • Site utility systems
    • Grading and drainage plans
    • Stormwater management systems
    • Grease interceptor locations and site integration
    • Paving improvements
    • Curb and gutter systems
    • ADA access routes and site accessibility improvements
  • Develop stormwater management strategies, including:
    • SWPPP requirements
    • Low Impact Development (LID) measures
    • Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs)
    • Water quality requirements
  • Coordinate with Architectural and Plumbing teams to determine optimal locations for:
    • Grease interceptors
    • Utility entry points
    • Fire water services
    • Electrical service equipment
    • Water and gas connections
  • Coordinate with surveyors and geotechnical consultants to evaluate site conditions, access constraints, environmental concerns, and constructability challenges.
  • Produce schematic designs, permit drawings, and construction documents.
  • Support entitlement, permitting, bid review, and construction administration activities.
  • Coordinate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), utility agencies, and public works departments throughout project development.
  • Support value engineering efforts and identify opportunities to simplify site construction, reduce costs, and accelerate schedules.

  • 20% Research, standardization, and process improvement initiatives

 

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5–8 years of experience in civil engineering design, land development, infrastructure design, or site development projects.
  • Strong experience evaluating existing site infrastructure and utility systems.
  • Experience designing:
    • Utility services and connections
    • Stormwater drainage systems
    • Site grading and paving
    • ADA-compliant site improvements
    • Sanitary sewer systems
    • Utility relocation and upgrades
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Site development practices
    • Utility coordination
    • Stormwater regulations
    • Public works standards
    • Constructability and site logistics
  • Experience coordinating with utility providers and public agencies.
  • Ability to evaluate site constraints and develop creative engineering solutions that balance cost, schedule, operational requirements, and permitting considerations.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and supporting permitting efforts.
  • Familiarity with construction cost estimating and value engineering.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.

Software Experience

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D (preferred)
  • AutoCAD
  • Bluebeam
  • Revit and BIM workflows (preferred)
  • GIS platforms and mapping tools (preferred)

Nice to Have

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with adaptive reuse and redevelopment projects.
  • Experience with industrial, commercial, retail, hospitality, or food service facilities.
  • QSD certification or equivalent stormwater credentials.
  • Experience working directly with utility providers and public works agencies.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting and HAZMAT investigations.
