Business Unit Director – Oncology, India

Key Responsibilities 

Business Strategy and Leadership 
• Define and articulate a clear vision and strategy for the Oncology Business Unit 
• Translate global oncology strategy into short-term and long-term India business plans 
• Anticipate market trends, scientific advancements, and competitive dynamics 

Commercial Performance and P&L Ownership 
• Own and deliver Business Unit P&L with focus on sustainable growth 
• Drive market share expansion through strong commercial execution 
• Ensure high-quality delivery across sales and marketing 

Brand Strategy and Marketing Excellence 
• Lead development and execution of brand strategies across oncology portfolio 
• Leverage scientific data, clinical evidence, and market insights to shape strategy 
• Ensure strong alignment with global oncology priorities and lifecycle plans 

Sales Force Effectiveness 
• Drive sales force strategy and deployment aligned to business priorities 
• Ensure achievement of sales targets through disciplined execution 
• Optimize field force capability and productivity 

Cross-functional Collaboration 
• Partner with Medical, Market Access, Regulatory, and other functions 
• Enable integrated execution of brand and portfolio strategies 
• Lead cross-functional initiatives critical to oncology business success 

Innovation and Patient-Centricity 
• Drive innovative solutions to enhance patient access and outcomes in oncology 
• Collaborate with ecosystem stakeholders to improve diagnosis and treatment pathways 
• Embed patient-centric approaches across all business initiatives 

People and Organizational Leadership 
• Build and lead a high-performing Oncology Business Unit team 
• Drive talent development, succession planning, and leadership capability 
• Foster a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous improvement 

Operational Excellence and Compliance 
• Ensure adherence to AstraZeneca’s Code of Ethics and compliance standards 
• Maintain strong governance across business operations 
• Manage budgets, risks, and execution with discipline 

 

People Management Scope 
• Leadership of Oncology Business Unit team in India (direct and indirect reports) 
• Manager of managers with matrix leadership responsibilities 

 

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

Essential 
• Graduate degree in Pharma, Science, or Medicine 
• 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical sales and marketing 
• Strong leadership experience with P&L accountability 
• Proven track record in driving commercial performance 
• Strong understanding of oncology therapy area and market dynamics 
• Strong strategic thinking and execution capability 

Desirable 
• MBA or advanced degree 
• Experience in oncology or specialty care segment 
• Experience managing product lifecycle including launches and growth phases 
• Strong cross-functional leadership experience
