Performs duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist
Performs basic shift leader functions.
Determines staffing workload needs using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) staffing reports. Prepares and distributes staff assignments using EMR reports. Assess and re-deploy staffing levels throughout the shift. Ensure appropriate staffing levels for oncoming shift using EMR reports.
Ensures standardized hand off for patient care services to the oncoming and off going shift RCP coordinator. Escalates safety and outcome issues as appropriate.
Ensures all safety events are entered into the Safety Event Reporting System. Research evidence based clinical and operational practices, reports and corrects patient safety issues. Uses the chain of command as appropriate. Assures feedback communication and action planning for the Event Reporting System
Assists with orientation and technical competency for Respiratory Care Services staff, new hires, medical staff, nursing and Respiratory Care student.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or other related field and a graduate of a school of Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or successor accrediting authority. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience - Three (3) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. One (1) year directly related critical care experience.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state in which work is practiced.
Register Respiratory Therapist (RRT). NBRC credentials must be maintained.
BLS
AARC Membership
NRP, STABLE, PALS, ACLS, NPS, etc. certifications– Must be obtain and maintained as required by work unit
Specialty Certification/ECMO or Transport Team (ACCS, RPFT, ECMO Specialist, NPS, Transport Cert, etc.) preferred
For Children’s Hospital Shift Coordinators must have NPS must be obtained within 6 months to one year
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of general respiratory therapy practices.
Knowledge of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Ability to demonstrate practical respiratory therapy skills and proper use of patient care equipment.
Ability to provide appropriate population specific care, e.g., (culture, age, etc.).
Ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient’s needs.
Knowledge of policies, procedures, and protocols
Must be proficient in all areas of critical care within the area employed
