A Housing Rehab Tech II job is available with the City of Fort Worth Neighborhood Services Department / Home Improvement and Construction. Priority Repair Program job is available with the City of Fort Worth Neighborhood Services Department at Hazel Harvey Peace Center for Neighborhoods. The Priority Repair Program provides major system home repairs and rehabilitations for low-income, homeowner households. This position will contribute to the City’s strategic goals, mission and vision by protecting the City’s affordable housing stock and keeping low-income residents in their homes. The job entails conducting home inspections, developing work write-ups and environmental reviews, communicating with contractors, and ensuring contractor work meets quality standards. Technicians will use computers/tablets and software in the office and in the field to conduct their work.
This position is grant-funded.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree from accredited college or university in business admiration, account, social services or related fields
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in housing programs, code enforcement or other closely related fields
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a housing rehabilitation program
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of residential construction
- Experience working with construction or home improvement companies
- Experience working with computer-based software applications
- Experience providing customer service to program applicants
- Experience in residential energy efficiency
The Housing Rehabilitation Technician II job responsibilities include:
- Handles calls from Contractors and applicants and responds to questions and complaints, assists applicants with completing necessary forms
- Assists in surveying and inspecting dwelling units
- Recognizes health and safety deficiencies in utility systems, structural systems, exterior housing units and other violations of the Minimum Building Standards Code and Energy Codes
- Writes clear and concise work specifications
- Calculating rehabilitation cost estimates
- Reviews all components of the estimation and bid process, participates in verifying that contractor bids coincide with money allocated, ensures no unapproved changes are made
- Monitors rehabilitation work in progress
- Communicates with applicants regarding repairs to be made and warranties
- Assists in performing final inspections, identifies additional items to be replaced or repaired, determines payment date
- Prepares and maintains housing rehabilitation inspection reports
- Great customer service skills
