The Sr. Manager, Commercial Learning & Development – APAC is a regional leadership role responsible for overseeing Commercial Learning & Development across the APAC region, including direct responsibility for ANZ.
This role leads the development and execution of capability-building strategies that enhance sales performance, product knowledge, and commercial excellence. It ensures alignment with international priorities while addressing regional market needs and business objectives.
The role combines strategic leadership, team management, and execution oversight, acting as the primary point of accountability for L&D across APAC. It partners closely with Sales, Marketing, and regional leadership teams to translate business strategy into effective, field-ready capability solutions.
Job Responsibilities
Commercial Learning & Development
- Lead and oversee the Commercial Learning & Development function across APAC, including ANZ Customize and adapt global training content to meet the market-specific needs and cultural nuances of the region.
- Define and implement a regional L&D strategy aligned with global commercial priorities and business needs Provide coaching and development support to commercial teams, promoting growth in sales performance and customer engagement.
- Act as a strategic partner to regional Sales and Marketing leadership, ensuring alignment between capability building and business performance Leverage technology platforms (LMS, CRM) to track, manage, and report on training initiatives and outcomes.
Capability Building & Training Execution
- Lead the development and delivery of training programmes to enhance:
- Product knowledge and technical expertise
- Sales capabilities (selling skills, negotiation, competitive positioning)
- Launch readiness and execution excellence
- Adapt international learning frameworks to meet regional and market-specific needs
- Ensure consistent, high-quality training delivery across APAC markets
Sales Performance & Impact
- Drive capability initiatives that support:
- Sales target achievement (volume and value)
- Market share growth
- Improved customer engagement and relationship quality
- Identify capability gaps through stakeholder engagement and performance insights
- Ensure training translates into measurable field impact and execution improvement
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of L&D Managers and trainers across the region
- Build internal L&D capability and strengthen the pipeline of future trainers and leaders
- Foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and consistency across markets
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate closely with:
- Regional and local Commercial Leadership
- Marketing teams
- International Commercial L&D
- Act as the primary L&D interface for APAC leadership
- Ensure aligned and coordinated execution of training and capability initiatives
Planning & Resource Management
- Develop and manage regional L&D plans and budgets
- Ensure optimal allocation of resources aligned with business priorities
- Monitor effectiveness of training programmes and continuously improve outcomes
Qualifications/Skills
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies
- Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated leadership capability in a regional or multi-market environment
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior levels
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural, geographically dispersed organisation
- Strong project and programme management skills
- Proficiency with LMS, CRM, and digital learning tools
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, or a related field; Master’s preferred
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in Sales, Commercial Training, or Learning & Development
- Experience in MedTech, Pharmaceutical, Optical, or similar industry preferred
- Proven track record in developing sales capability and driving performance outcomes
- Experience managing teams and working across multiple markets
- Experience with Alcon’s product portfolio or a similar industry preferred.
- Familiarity with MS Office, SAP, CRM systems.
- Able to travel
