Senior Research Analyst - Alternatives

Overview:

Identifies, analyzes and recommends alternative investments to improve portfolio outcomes for clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manager selection, due diligence and monitoring across private equity, private real estate, private credit and hedge funds
  • Collaborate with client-facing colleagues to strengthen their understanding of investment solutions.
  • Participate in client and prospect meetings to help solidify current relationships and to develop new business.
  • Analyze risks, exposures and performance drivers of investment strategies.
  • Manage and allocate research work to less experienced teammates.
  • Prepare documentation to approve investments, and communicate portfolio performance, investment options, risks and pending decisions.
  • Conduct regular meetings and calls to discuss organizational developments, investment strategy and performance/risk.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, OR in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience
  • Strong understanding of capital markets and current knowledge of the state of the industry
  • Excellent written and presentation skills
  • Proficient with common industry tools, including Bloomberg, FactSet and Morningstar Direct
  • Highly analytical, research-driven skill set
  • Prior experience communicating insights to internal and external stakeholders
  • Hands on investment experience in alternative asset classes at wealth manager, family office, foundation, endowment, consultant or other institutional asset management firm

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience
  • CFA, progress toward obtaining CFA designation
  • Advanced Degree
  • Network of industry contacts
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior teammates

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $128,100.00 - $213,500.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
