The Job:
As the General Manager for Stanley Engineering Fastening (SEF) Japan, to manage around USD 200 million business, you will sit on the Japan SEF leadership team and serve as a core member of the Asia leadership group. You will own the full Japan P&L end-to-end and act as the single architect of all commercial strategy and execution.
You are expected to:
- Assume General Management and local leadership responsibilities for planning, developing and implementing sales and commercial strategies for all fastening product lines with Automotive and OEM customers in Japan.
- Take full ownership of P&L, budgeting, forecasting, cost controls and financial performance, with a focus on profitability and sustainable growth.
- Be a strategic leader with extensive experience managing mature teams, driving strategic business goals, leading and managing organizational change, making difficult and timely decisions, developing collaborative action plans with team members through consultation and executive experience.
- Lead and set the strategic direction for the Commercial teams to achieve and exceed the country’s targets, driving volumes and revenue growth while optimizing profitability.
- Provide direction and leadership to manufacturing, supply chain and other supporting functions to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost control across sales, marketing, engineering, supply chain, and customer service operations.
- Communicate effectively and establish credibility throughout the organization and with senior leadership team both regionally and globally. Be proactive in developing effective solutions to business challenges.
- Implement a vision and multi-year business strategy that balances execution across marketing, business development, product, operations and back-office.
- Develop the strategic plan annual operating budget for SEF Japan and provide operational leadership by translating strategies into key business priorities for the country and ensure the attainment of financial and other organizational objectives.
- Forge and sustain trusted and close relationships with global, regional and local automotive and industrial customers while orchestrating stakeholders across all levels to ensure consistent, strategic delivery that positions SEF Japan as the customer’s long-term partner.
- Manage the voice of the customers and translate customer insights into actionable feedback for the Automotive vertical and position products for financial success while respecting global guidelines and brand strategy. Act as the subject matter expert and architect of the commercial strategy, responsible for acquiring strategic customers and delivering tailored solutions.
- Develop and identify sales strategies, assess revenue potential, and outline targeted activities to maximize revenue opportunities and penetrate market with value-based SEF solutions.
- Apply real-time, on-the-ground insight into Japan’s OEM policies, market trends, competitor moves and pricing to craft budgets and sales plans, while tracking industry shifts (i.e. EV, lightweighting, sustainability) and customer needs to steer both local and global portfolios.
- Monitor and analyze Net Promoter Scores (NPS) for automotive customers, implementing initiatives to enhance satisfaction, responsiveness and service quality.
- Evaluate the organization’s financial, operational, and sales and marketing structures and plan for continuous improvements and increased operational efficiencies.
- Cultivate a strong, inclusive, purpose-driven culture by leading, communicating, and coaching cross-functional teams, to boost employee engagement, collaboration and drive for high performing team across all departments.
- Accomplish work designated by line manager, leadership team and other key stakeholders in the local and global teams.
- Adhere to company policies, industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Act as a strategic advisor and consultant, offering expert advice on contracts, negotiations, or business discussions that the company may enter into.
The Person:

- A Degree in Engineering, or a related field (Masters’ degree or MBA preferred)
- A minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in multinational corporations, preferably from Auto OEM, Auto tiers, Japanese & European OEM customer base
- Good written and verbal communication skills: Fluent English language is mandatory and a secondary local language (dependent on the market/segment/account serviced) is preferred.
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the Automotive-related industry.
- Demonstrated success in commercial growth, business development and general management.
- Strong understanding of complex supply chains, including manufacturing, procurement, logistics, and inventory management.
- Financially literate with a solid understanding of P&L, budgeting, and strategic planning
- Possess a good network in the general automotive or auto parts industry, with rich business leadership and a network of contacts in the Automotive OEMs and automotive related businesses.
- Strong track record in leading portfolio strategies and achieving profitability targets.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- High technical aptitude with the ability to quickly grasp and articulate complex technological concepts.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, with strong commercial instincts and an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Solid understanding of local and global automotive and auto parts industry, with rich experience in business leadership and a network of contacts in automotive related businesses.
- Exceptional consultative selling, strategic account planning, and solution-oriented approach.
- Strong track record of building and nurturing a positive company culture and developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, particularly with senior decision makers and cross-functional teams.
- Collaborative, agile and proactive in driving outcomes across local and global teams.
- Customer focused mindset, able to secure team’s commitment towards goals achievement short and long-term, continuously building and enhancing customer relationships.
- Able to work with all levels to get things done, building and challenging the team to work collaboratively, sharing best practices and lessons learnt.
- Provide the necessary resources, e.g. headcount and equipment, and support development and feedback opportunities for the team to perform, work cross-functionally within the organization to address issues on quality, delivery, cost, inventory, etc.

- Travel up to 40% domestically and globally.
