The ADA & Regulatory Compliance Specialist (Associate II - Regulatory Support) position serves as the primary ADA compliance support contact for ADA Group InForce Operations and co-insured business. Responsibilities include supporting in-force operations such as POA reviews, ownership and beneficiary changes, conservatorship matters, trusts, collateral assignments, court orders, bankruptcies, viaticals, and divorce decrees. The role involves legal and regulatory research, responding to regulatory audits and inquiries, assisting with state reporting requirements, and reviewing ADA claim files for compliance with guidelines, quality standards, SOC controls, and policy provisions.

Candidates with the following experience will be considered for an interview:

  • Strong foundation in legal research OR insurance operations
  • Preferred: J.D.
  • Alternatively:
    • Bachelor’s + relevant business/industry experience
  • Typical experience:
    • 3–5 years legal/regulatory experience
    • OR 7–10 years life/annuity operations experience
    • Focus on life/disability claims review, investigation, review, or compliance
Hybrid and Remote Work Arrangements:
The ADA & Regulatory Compliance Specialist position follows a hybrid work schedule for those who reside close to Protective's Birmingham office. 

Primary Job Functions:

  • Serve as primary contact for ADA Group InForce Operations and co-insured business.
  • Review and research applicable laws and regulations for ADA matters.
  • Review of the ADA claim files for compliance with guidelines and quality controls.
  •  Conduct SOC audits and support market conduct exams and regulatory reviews.
  • Provide claim decision support including authorization of payments and denials.
  •  Assist with required state reporting and MCAS filings.
  • Support ADA compliance projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Work Experience, Education, Certification / Training Required:

  • J.D. preferred, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience acceptable.
  • 3–5 years legal research or 7–10 years life/annuity experience.
  • Experience with periodic operational testing and reporting.
  • Experience implementing procedural enhancements.
  • Knowledge of life/disability claim investigation and review processes.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; able to learn systems like OnBase and CAB.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  •  Strong analytical skills to organize and interpret data.
  • Self-directed with minimal supervision.
  • Effective under pressure with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management abilities and consistent meeting of deadlines.
