Sr Technical Program manager, Aurora Open Source Product

Amazon · Redmond, Washington, USA

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a world-class Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM III) to manage core service programs and projects for AWS Aurora—including building new features, driving operational excellence, and ensuring service fundamentals. This is a highly visible and challenging position within one of AWS's most critical database services.

About the Role
Technical Program Managers in Aurora own large, complex programs spanning interconnected dependencies across the organization, ensuring they execute efficiently and effectively at cloud scale. You will be responsible for identifying and engaging stakeholders, partnering with technical leads and product management to define roadmaps and strategies, driving release delivery, and providing ongoing status reporting to senior leadership. You will champion quality and ensure the engineering bar does not drop. It will be your responsibility to navigate inter-team dependencies, identify gaps in execution, and drive associated teams to deliver results.

You will work across domains—specifically with product management, software engineers, engineering managers, and UX teams—to drive high-profile projects and releases for Aurora security. You will be responsible for driving deployments to our high-security regions, requiring careful stakeholder engagement and understanding of complex technical interdependencies.

About Amazon Aurora
Amazon Aurora is a fully managed relational database service that combines the performance and availability of high-end commercial databases with the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of open-source databases. Aurora is fully compatible with MySQL and PostgreSQL, delivering up to 5x the throughput of standard PostgreSQL and 3x the throughput of standard MySQL—without requiring application modifications. Aurora features a high-performance distributed storage subsystem that automatically scales up to 128 TiB, with six-way replication across three Availability Zones for fault tolerance and high availability. Aurora also offers serverless capabilities, fast database cloning, point-in-time recovery, and Multi-Master support for continuous write availability.

What You'll Do
Own and drive complex, cross-functional technology programs from inception through delivery, managing the full program lifecycle across multiple engineering teams
Partner with technical leads and product management to define program strategy, roadmaps, and success criteria
Navigate ambiguity where business problems, program strategy, and technology solutions may not yet be defined
Drive release delivery for Aurora features and security deployments, including high-security region launches
Identify and manage risks, dependencies, and blockers across 5+ stakeholder groups; escalate effectively to senior leadership
Establish program metrics, track delivery velocity, and provide clear reporting to Directors and VPs
Streamline processes to increase speed of delivery and eliminate unnecessary overhead
Contribute to technology strategy and architecture decisions, ensuring appropriate trade-offs between scalability, security, performance, and business requirements

A Successful Candidate Will Have
A strong technical background with the ability to understand and contribute to technology strategy and system design for cloud-scale distributed services
Experience driving technical architecture decisions, delivery, and operations
Demonstrated ability to manage complex programs with high technical ambiguity and multiple stakeholder groups
Comfort with executive-level communication, escalation, and answering probing questions on program status
Experience unblocking teams and increasing the speed of delivery through effective negotiation of resources and priorities
