Scope of Work

The Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, processes, prepares, and delivers medications and supplies, working with multiple medication automation systems.  The Pharmacy Technician works in complex pharmacy areas, including Sterile Product Compounding, Controlled Substance Handling, and Inventory Management.

  • Prepares supplies / medication, including complex sterile formulations under the direction of a Pharmacist. May prepare hazardous or biologic products when properly trained and competencies are passed.
  • Prepares and packages bulk medications into unit of use packaging.
  • Handles controlled substances for pharmacy and patient care areas under direct supervision of a pharmacist per federal and state law.
  • Delivers pharmacy prepared medications, controlled substances and supplies to various nursing stations/patient care areas.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintains all requirements for CPhT certifications. Completes all Spectrum Health assigned competencies by assigned due dates.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Associate's Degree
  • Hospital experience Preferred
  • LIC-Pharmacist Intern - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or
  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician Temp - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required And
  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician - STATE_MI State of Michigan 90 Days required
  • CRT-Pharmacy Technician, Certified (CPHT) - PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required Or
  • CRT-Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) - NHA National Healthcareer Association Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required
  • Ideal candidate would be a Pharmacy Technician possessing both Full License and National Certification, such as PTCB or ExCPT

  • Inpatient, IV, or Compounding experience would be a strong plus

  • This is a Full-Time Position rotating through the following Schedules:

  • -10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

  • -12 p.m.to 8:30 p.m.

  • -2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

  • The Schedule is usually put out 4-6 Weeks in advance

  • All Shifts are 8.5-Hour Shifts
